Scope of Position:
This position is in the Microscopy and Surface Analysis to support the Advanced Sample Preparation group, specifically EPMA samples, as well as support for the XRD powder diffraction team. The scope of the work includes sample preparation for a variety of projects for all samples of interest to Corning. The focus for this position is to provide timely sample preparation for the Electron Microscopy group as well as XRD powder diffraction sample preparation and instrument operation. The expectation is for clear communication among members of the ASP lab, EPMA core technology, and XRD to understand needs and expectations for performance. In addition, clear communication with external customers is necessary to understand their needs and communicate the lab capabilities and expectations. The role encompasses the application of scientific, mathematical, and artistic techniques in the determination of dimensions, quantity, or capacity of products or processes, mainly in sample preparation and analysis for glass and ceramic materials. Implements sample preparation methods and equipment using a variety of techniques and polishers. Defines changes required in preparation equipment, procedures, processes, or new requirements associated with sample dimensions. Works with lab supervisor or senior scientists to compile customer reports from the data or procedures. Maintains clean and organized lab environment and practices good safety and laboratory practices (5S proficient). Makes requests to other characterization teams for additional needs and follows-up on dissemination of results. Follows established measurement quality control systems to maintain good standing as a satellite lab for CET. Participates in annual audits according to standards set by the IATF16949.

The range for this position is $54,358.00 - $74,742.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
