Position Summary:

The Payables Team Lead works closely with the Payables Supervisor on the daily reconciliation and submission of payments to insurance carriers. This position is responsible for analyzing team processes and leading strategies to maximize efficiencies in the accounting department operations. 

Essential Functions:

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external customers to accelerate carrier payments
  • Mentor and train Carrier Payables Team staff
  • Assist with processing of write offs while maintaining template and ledger accuracy
  • Daily review and management of advances, offsets and vouchers
  • Maintain consistent communications with large market trading partners requiring special handling
  • Shares responsibility for timeliness of carrier payables inbox response
  • Assists with the reconciliation of carrier invoices and statements to the premium accounting billing system and preparing carrier payments. 
  • Monitors staff performance to ensure payments are remitted timely and accurately in accordance with company policies
  • Ensure accuracy of carrier merger and acquisition consolidation efforts
  • Independently investigate, research, and resolve issues as they relate to billing accuracy
  • Support other Premium Accounting Teams in resolving issues and maintaining customer service standards 
  • Approves premium payments and ensures the completeness of those payments
  • Identify and initiate process and project improvements for the Payables Team

Education/Experience/Skills:

  • Associate’s Degree (AA) in Accounting or other relevant discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Five to seven years relevant experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a high volume position, deliver timely and accurate work products with customer service focus and respond with sense of urgency as required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Outlook
  • Insurance industry and agency management system experience strongly desired
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong teamwork orientation; willingness to help larger team meet goals and responsibilities

The target hourly range for this position is $26.44 - $34.00. The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
