Job Description:

The programme is widely regarded as one of Shell’s most important projects, boasting a team of over 70 individuals. As a result, this presents a unique opportunity for the ideal candidate to make a highly visible and influential impact on the programme as you will entail driving the role in the Gas Trading sector.

Where you fit in

Downstream Exchange (DSX) is expanding its Project Management and BA team. 'Downstream Exchange (DSX/DEP) is a state-of-the-art web application that simplifies the complexity of the life of derivatives deal to the click of a button. DSX provides real-time tradable market access across Downstream, Integrated Gas, and Upstream and empowers a wide range of Shell businesses to manage their derivatives and physical gas exposures.

By eliminating the process of manually sending orders and entering numerous deals through recorded messenger services and phones, this innovation has liberated countless hours of trader time. Simultaneously, it has provided the Shell community with price transparency and immediate access to real-time pricing, revolutionizing the customer experience.

What's the role

As a Business Analyst, you are responsible for identifying and documenting the business needs of their clients and stakeholders, and helping to determine feasible solutions to meet business needs or resolve business problems.  This role will give you the opportunity to grow to become an active thought partner and solution visionary who shapes the technology demand and direction in the business community.

Your further accountabilities include the following:

  • Precisely capture business problems, value drivers, and functional/non-functional requirements, including health, safety, security, usability, data, and supportability considerations.

  • Translate business requirements into functionality and assess the risks, feasibility, opportunities, and business impacts of various solution options.

  • Assess and model processes, data flows, and technology to understand the current value and issues, and identify opportunities for improvement.

  • Create clear documentation to communicate requirements and related information; keep updated to align with the solution over the project lifecycle.

  • Ensure traceability of requirements from business needs and requirements, through testing and scope changes, to final solution.

  • Interact with software suppliers, designers, and developers to understand software limitations, deliver elements of system and database design, and ensure that business requirements and use cases are handled.

  • Create acceptance criteria and validate that solutions meet business needs through defining and coordinating testing.

  • Create and present compelling business cases to justify solution value and establish approval, funding, and prioritization.

  • Initiate, plan, execute, monitor, and control Business Analysis activities on projects within agreed parameters of cost, time, and quality.

  • Support Business Analysts across the programme to help ensure a consistently high level of quality.

  • Understand and stay abreast of relevant architectures and technologies related to a business area.  Research potential solutions and innovative ideas.  Guide and manage interactions with technology vendors.

  • Lead stakeholder management activities including facilitation of large design sessions.

  • Build and maintain strong and effective working relationships with key business and IT stakeholders.

  • Support longer-term business strategic goals through proposing improvements in value, cost, process, data, technology, functionality, and initiating high-level business requirements and feasibility studies to discover options and directions.

  • Champion the development of long-term Business Analysis capability within Shell through bringing external perspectives, coaching others about BA techniques, identifying and promoting best practices, and contributing to community building.

What we need from you

We are keen to hear from professionals who have solid BA experience on a Trading platform and be able to talk confidently regards types of trades and their compositions.

Further requirements are as follows:

  • High level of proven competency and practical work experience performing a Business Analysis role in a Trading environment

  • Domain knowledge on trading functionality and trading types

  • Must be able to confidently explain different types of Commodity Trading

  • Good understanding and experience of the various Agile frameworks

  • Experience working in Agile projects and educating stakeholders including Product Owners and Business partners in Agile ways of working

  • Ability to take a systematic and analytical approach to problem solving and pay close attention to detail

  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with ability to communicate concisely and clearly

  • Able to come to the Shell London office at a minimum of twice a week

  • Hands-on experience specifically in Gas Trading with indepth knowledge is preferred but not mandatory
