Reporting to the Solution Delivery (SD) Policy and Controls Senior Specialist within the Trading & Supply (T&S) Compliance Framework and Oversight (CF&O) team, the SD Policy and Controls Specialist is responsible for supporting the design, implementation and ongoing maintenance of the integrated Compliance Policy and Controls Programme to ensure compliance with global regulatory requirements, laws, expectations, compliance risks and business growth across T&S.

Having such a Programme is a requirement for the regulated entities within T&S. More specifically this role is part of the Solution Delivery team, which sits within the wider Compliance Policy and Controls team and provides dedicated focus on business- or Compliance-led high priority initiatives.

What’s the role?

The SD Policy and Controls Specialist is responsible for supporting with:

  • Delivery of new Compliance policies and controls across T&S, as part of Line of Defence 1 or 2 established projects, or otherwise, to implement new regulatory requirements and regulatory change to ensure T&S businesses can meet their regulatory obligations.
  • Provision of a “one package” approach to policy and controls, developing control standards that set out minimum requirements for compliance with policies that T&S businesses can use as the foundation for a robust controls and process framework.
  • Coordination with other Compliance functions to develop, implement and regularly review T&S Compliance strategies, goals, and priorities to align with T&S business strategy and developments within T&S Compliance.
  • Collaborate with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) on drafting new policies and controls, as necessary.
  • Utilise an agile approach to delivery, leveraging different methodologies and different styles of stakeholder engagement.
  • Evaluation of risks and issues to ensure appropriate escalation of complex issues to the Solution Delivery Policy and Controls Senior Specialist.
  • Act as policy and controls SME for LOD1 business-led initiatives originating from the Central Project team, other T&S support functions or otherwise.
  • Delivery and management of the risks associated with the delivery of new policy and controls.
  • Manage stakeholders across the wider T&S Compliance team, T&S businesses, IT, and external 3rd parties.
  • Deploy general understanding of policy and controls, compliance framework and risk management and apply through selected projects across the risk taxonomy.
  • Identification of process improvements.
  • Analyse and develop policy and controls related Management Information/Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for reporting.

What we need from you

We are keen to hear from candidates with significant experience and technical knowledge across a spectrum of trading compliance functional domains and knowledge of global financial regulatory compliance requirements. Knowledge of the global Energy markets (Gas, Power, Carbon and Oil) is also a requirement.

We would also like to see the following on your CV:

  • Experience in developing documentation relating to a Compliance Framework, such as policies, processes, procedures, risk matrices, guidelines, and manuals. Experience of designing specific compliance policies and controls desirable.
  • This role requires a high level of technical expertise/SME knowledge.
  • Understanding of project delivery, change management and continuous improvement, with ability to manage multiple tasks at once and comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Interpersonal and relationship building skills including the ability to design solutions to problems and translate design into implementation actions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Clear understanding of the “3 Lines of Defence” model and segregation of duties for each LOD.
  • Ability to interact, collaborate and partner with a wide range of stakeholders, including businesses, other compliance teams and functions. Credible and persuasive in ensuring the needs of our complex business are fully understood.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate and partner effectively within a global team.
  • Demonstrates a pragmatic approach and learner mindset.
