Are you a proactive and motivated Chemical/Process Engineer with 5 - 8 years’ experience and an interest in the UK storage and energy market? As a senior member of the process engineering team, you will primarily be responsible for the production and development of process engineering deliverables for a range of projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical capabilities and experience facilitating and participating in process safety studies. They will be a logical thinker with the capability to quickly analyse a problem and deliver a practical solution. They will have the ability to pick up new concepts rapidly and work both independently and collaboratively.  

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will work as part of the Engineering Technology team, delivering work under the supervision of one of our lead engineers. Key tasks and activities will include:  

• Leading process safety related activities by contributing to documents such as Basis of Safety and ESD Philosophy and leading/specifying project safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA. 
• Sizing and specification of turbomachinery, pumps, vessels, heat exchangers and valves.   
• Steady state process modelling to identify and assess potential improvements to the Process design. 
• Research-based activities requiring high level analysis of energy storage technology and the energy market. 
• Checking, approving and ownership of technical drawings including P&IDs and PFDs. 
• Checking, approving and ownership of deliverables including heat and mass balances, line lists and cause & effect diagrams. 
• Checking, approving and ownership of technical documentation including process descriptions, operating manuals, and equipment specifications.  
• Collaboration with vendors, internal discipline engineers and contractors to advance the process design. 
• Site based activities including commissioning, performance testing and process optimisation. 
• Regularly communicate progress with the wider engineering team and process team effectively and professionally. 
• Build strong working relationships, both internally and externally.

Requirements

Essential:

• MEng Degree or equivalent qualification in Chemical Engineering 
• Strong foundation in thermodynamics. 
• Process safety experience including participation in and/or facilitation of safety studies such as HAZID, HAZOP and LOPA.  
• Microsoft Office proficiency (Excel & Word). 
• Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.  
• Sound report writing skills and ability to prepare, comprehend and communicate engineering and technological documents. 
• Process modelling experience (Unisim, Aspen HYSYS, Aspen +, MATLAB, PRO/II etc.) 
• Good attention to detail 
• Questioning nature, not afraid to ask questions. 
• High level of integrity and diplomacy. 
• A highly motivated, reliable and responsible individual. 
• Has a genuine interest in the environment, sustainability and renewable energy. 

Desirable:

• IChemE Chartered Member 
• Process plant commissioning and operating experience an advantage. 
• Experience relating to performance testing of process plant an advantage. 
• Experience working on projects relating to energy or energy storage industry desirable. 
• Experience in industrial gases industry an advantage.
