Job Title:             Junior Legal Counsel

Reports to:         Head of Legal

Salary:                 up to £60,000 (depending on experience)

Location:            Shoreham-by-Sea (Hybrid 2-3 days in office per week)

We are seeking an enthusiastic, approachable and well-organised Junior Legal Counsel to join our fast-paced and rapidly growing company which provides essential business technology to SMEs and enterprise companies.

The role involves a wide range of legal, compliance, due diligence and regulatory matters supporting colleagues across all departments and group companies, and we require someone who is adaptable, flexible and happy to get stuck into varying challenges.

Role

Your time will span the full scope of legal functions, namely:

  • Commercial – reviewing and drafting customer, supplier and reseller contracts (hosted solutions, telecoms, data, IT, connectivity, mobiles and cyber), refreshing terms and conditions, fielding day-to-day legal queries, updating precedents and website policies, taking a balanced and pragmatic approach to commercial risk and identifying new risks.
  • Acquisitions – supporting due diligence, integration and compliance and liaising with external legal teams.
  • Client Projects – supporting the enterprise team with multi-site/multi-geographic customers requiring an overhaul of their business technology solutions.
  • Internal Projects – supporting colleagues with any project roll-out and integration, flagging any legal considerations to be addressed within the process.
  • Compliance – horizon scanning relevant Ofcom industry updates, supporting internal governance and approval processes, enhancing internal policies and registers, general GDPR awareness (training can be provided for all areas).
  • Company Secretarial – managing external co sec across the group companies, documenting board minutes and associated administrative tasks.
  • General business support – employment, real estate, finance, insurance, marketing, customer services and dispute management.

Team Structure

You will report directly to the Head of Legal, who is currently sole counsel. The Head of Legal reports into the Board of Directors.

You must be keen to work both in a team and independently and you will spend a lot of time working directly with non-legal colleagues to understand commercial requirements.

No day is the same and we will support any particular interests you have or skills you would like to enhance.

Qualifications, skills experience

You must be England & Wales qualified between 1-3 years PQE with training gained at a reputable law firm.

Experience in a commercial team will be beneficial, and prior in-house or secondment experience is also an advantage, as it will be essential that you are business oriented and proactive with experience advising real legal risks and balancing these against commercial gains.
