We are currently seeking a Bridge/LPS Operator to join our team at Lowestoft port. The successful candidate will be responsible to ensure the safe operation of the Lowestoft Bridges and support the ports LPS function to facilitate the safety of navigation and safe operation of the Port of Lowestoft.
Accountabilities
Maintain Local Port Services functions at Lowestoft including:
24hr port VHF radio and port ‘front desk’ telephone cover.
Issue of ABP permissions forms for diving and hot work activities on ABP berths. Ensure such activities are suitably promulgated to relevant port users to ensure compliance with the relevant permissions.
Report unsafe practices, damages, or potentially dangerous situations to HM or Deputy to initiate appropriate response.
Compliance with Safety Management Systems and company Health and Safety requirements/directives.
Liaise with ABP staff, contractors, vessel agents, owners, operators and customers
Safe operation of the Lowestoft Bridges (considering the safety of vessels/craft, and road users/pedestrians), in accordance with Bridge Operator’s Procedures manual.
Delegated authority for issue of Special Directions on behalf of Harbour Master.
First point of contact for Emergency Response requirements, for potential initiation of port emergency plans and procedures (subject to instructions from Harbour Master or Deputy). Liaise with emergency services for incident response on port estate areas and adjoining land/areas.
Record keeping of port documents (paper and electronic), including data input to PAVIS for billing functions and CERS3 compliance.
Operate and implement port flood warning service.
Assist with training and familiarisation of new staff.
Skills, experiences, qualifications, and competencies
Essential
Ability to work on a rostered shift pattern which includes unsociable hours.
Excellent communication skills.
Computer literate.
Ability to work under pressure.
Knowledge of mandatory, regulatory and safety responsibilities relevant to the main duties.
A flexible and committed approach to working within a small team that strives to provide a high-quality Port and Marine service.
Ideal
Marine background or knowledge.
Job relevant IT qualifications (excel and word)
Knowledge of Port Operations and Port Emergency Plans.
Minimum Short Range VHF Radio certificate.
The shift pattern for this role is 12-hour shift, operating from Monday to Sunday within a rolling rota with night shifts included, further information on the rota will be discussed on interview.
