If so, we have the perfect role for you! We are currently seeking a highly motivated and skilled Assistant Dock Master to join our dynamic team at Grimsby Royal Dock.
ABP is dedicated to managing and coordinating vessel movements in some of the busiest ports and waterways in the UK, and the Humber is no exception. With cutting-edge technology and a strong commitment to safety, we play a critical role in maintaining the smooth flow of maritime traffic and ensuring the protection of the environment.
Accountabilities
Plan, control and facilitate the safe navigation of vessels within Grimsby Port Area, with the associated application of by-laws and statutory requirements and regulations.
Carry out the Port’s Statutory Harbour Authorities duties and safety management system, including exercising the powers of the Dock Master as per Harbour docks and piers act.
Represent the port and provide relevant advice.
Liaise with Humber Estuary Services and other Terminal operators to ensure safe Marine Operations in the Grimsby Port Area.
Liaise with pilots and PEC holders on the safe movement of vessels in the Grimsby Port Area.
Liaise with the engineering department to ensure the maintenance of port equipment.
Lead and supervise the Marine staff in their duties, ensure safety procedures are followed and relevant Health and Safety and employment legislation is complied with.
Respond and take control of emergency situations as required and control them until relieved by a Manager.
Control and oversee permit and permissions to work.
Maintain a constant update of PAVIS planning so an up to date marine plan of activities is always available.
Write up reports of any accidents, incidents, or damage. Represent ABP’s interest within the port.
In the event of any pollution incidents with the dock, carry out investigation and co-ordinate clean-up operations as required by the Port Oil Spill Contingency Plan.
Comply with and follow ABP’s Marine, Safety, Environmental and other policies.
Responsible for the ongoing management, development, and training of team members. To undertake appraisals and to ensure team members have sufficient knowledge to be able to operate independently on a day-to-day basis.
Responsible for Port marine operations, including lift plan approvals, berth allocations, daily meetings and tool box talks.
Skills, experiences, qualifications and competencies
Essential
A Watch Keeping Certificate or extensive Port Marine Operational experience (Port marine operations officer) is essential and a Class 1 (Master / STCW II/2 (unlimited in area or tonnage Certificate of Competency) would be desirable.
Knowledge of the statutory, regulatory and safety responsibilities relevant to the main duties.
Good leadership and communication skills (including I.T)
Knowledge of general Port Operations and port emergency plans.
A flexible and committed approach to teamwork.
Undertake shift work.
Hold a full UK drivers licence
