Our Southampton port is the largest export port in the UK providing a critical link to our goal of Keeping Britain Trading! Annually we handle 900,000 vehicles, accepting 2 million cruise passengers, and handle exports in excess of £40Bn through the 2nd largest container terminal in the UK. Our operations team plays a vital part in making this happen, whether attending reactive maintenance jobs, preparing berths for ships, or carrying out maintenance checks.

 

We're currently looking to recruit a Service Delivery Operative to join our team to assist with all cruise, stevedoring, maintenance, and marine operational activities.

 

Accountabilities

  • Act as part of a team in working to provide support for a 24/7 operation, including carrying out cruise, stevedoring, maintenance, and marine-related activities as and when required.
  • Be part of a successful Health & Safety culture, striving towards the company’s Beyond Zero behavioral safety ambitions and acting as a role model for this. Ensuring compliance with Health, Safety & Environmental policies & procedures at all times.
  • Installation and removal of conventional gangways to vessels in accordance with ABP’s Safe Systems of Work.
  • Moving floating fenders into position on quaysides as per marine berth planner instruction.
  • Use of / work on “workboat” for moving fenders, recovery of flotsam, maintenance of aids of navigation, or anything else as required.
  • Clean and maintain ABP-owned steps/slipways/quayside ladders on a regular basis, ensuring standards are always maintained.
  • Maintain fender moorings as necessary including making up lanyards and splicing ropes and wires, plus other basic maintenance duties as required.
  • Set up temporary storage compounds and cruise terminals.
  • Assist the stevedore department with various operations as and when required
  • Carry out work at Height and on or near water.

 

Key Requirements for the role are:

  • Driving License
  • Self-motivated, with good communication skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Good working knowledge of Health & Safety requirements, with the ability to produce, update and issue Safe Systems of Work and Risk Assessments as required. Ensuring compliance with H&S requirements and other relevant legislation.
  • Flexible with regard to working hours and duties.
  • Proven experience of working well under pressure.

The role is working shifts that are planned on a 26-week cycle and will involve your core hours being either 0430 until 1330 or 1315 until 2215 on a rotating basis.
