What you’ll do (the role)

Summary

The Community Engagement Manager will be instrumental in delivering Lightsource bp’s engagement strategy at a project level within the UK and Ireland.

The local communities in which we operate are at the core of our business and we believe that meaningful and enduring relationships with these communities is the key to delivering projects and facilitating the clean energy transition. You will be instrumental in the facilitation and maintenance of these relationships.

In addition to leading project level community engaging in the UK and Ireland, you will also support the Head of Community Engagement in the development of LSbp’s EMEA community engagement strategy and training programmes. You will also work closely with our Marketing and Communications department, Government Affairs team, and the UK and Ireland Environmental & Social Planning and Business Development teams, in addition to collaborating with other teams such as Design, Construction, Asset Management, Power Marketing and Structured Finance. The role will comprise a combination of external and internal engagement to ensure alignment across the business.

You will also be part of the wider global community of environmental and social affairs professionals at Lightsource bp, with the opportunity to get involved in regional and company level initiatives that interest you.

 

Duties and responsibilities

  • Identify and assess potential agency partners to support our community engagement work in each country
  • Work with local teams to develop project level community engagement strategies and organise engagement activities
  • Where agency partners are engaged to support with preparing and delivering community engagement strategies, lead on this relationship and ensure they have a clear brief
  • Attend and lead community engagement events and activities and local political engagement
  • Be across evolving knowledge and industry trends in relation to communication and engagement.
  • Communicate effectively and appropriately with diverse range of stakeholders, including members of the public, local government authorities, NGOs and industry bodies etc.
  • Develop strong working relationships with key internal counterparts in Communications & Marketing, Environmental Planning, Business Development and Government Affairs.
  • Be an advocate for community engagement within the business to ensure understanding and practice of community engagement continues to be embedded across the organisation.
  • Assist the Head of Community Engagement in the development of LSbp’s strategy and approach to community engagement for the EMEA region.

 

Who we’re looking for

Knowledge

  • Comprehensive knowledge of community and stakeholder engagement requirements and processes in the UK and Ireland
  • Familiarity with country specific requirements and best practice for project benefit sharing for renewable energy projects

 

Experience & Education

  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, and an ability to build relationships and trust with a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Commercial acumen and entrepreneurial values.
  • Excellent project management skills including the ability to manage complex project issues, managing time, setting priorities and organising the complex logistics of engagement activities and outputs
  • Solid understanding of both the underlying principles and practices of community engagement including being able to communicate the importance of community engagement in project delivery
  • Experience in organizing community events such as public participation and information workshops
  • Knowledge of community engagement strategies across Europe
  • Demonstrated record of delivering successful community activities and outputs at a range of scales, including adapting to challenges and managing sensitive projects.
  • Experience in ground mount solar PV, wind and/or other renewable energy/infrastructure projects.

  • Fluent English is essential. Welsh and/or Irish beneficial.
