WHAT TO EXPECT
The Instrumentation Applications team support the JLR engineering community in providing expert knowledge of data acquisition installations and measurement techniques.
As the Lead Instrumentation Engineer at Whitley FIS Build, you will be responsible for managing a team of engineers and fitters/technicians to ensure measurement equipment installations are completed to time, cost and quality.
The role oversees the delivery of measurement systems to Functional Integrated Simulators (FIS) Prototype vehicles, to enable the capture of test data. This activity enables our internal engineering customers to validate vehicle, system and component performance. There is also an aspect of reactive work to manage to further support engineering customers post build.
Key Accountabilities and Responsibilities
• Management of a team of Instrumentation Engineers and fitters/technicians to deliver data acquisition and measurement solutions.
• Advise and support Instrumentation customers with measurement options and problem solving.
• Support instrumentation build-planning, build-delivery and sign off during prototype vehicle assembly at various sites.
• Use of specialist tools within the Instrumentation department such as a Requirements database, Data-logger software (e.g. Ipemotion) and a Calibration and Instrument database to work efficiently and deliver solutions fully “documented” and aligned to our customer requests.
• Coordinate with other team members to complete Instrumentation Job Cards to a high standard and with timely delivery.
• Support apprentices and support in managing their progress and development.
WHAT YOU’LL NEED
Knowledge, Skills and Experience
• Excellent team leadership and resource management skills (both of salaried and hourly paid team)
• Significant understanding of prototype vehicle builds and prototype build processes.
• Strong overall technical vehicle system knowledge and platform architecture awareness
• Clear and concise communication skills to present status to customers and stakeholders at all business levels
• Strong Project Management skills to manage planning and delivering complex programmes concurrently.
• Experience of compliance and standards management tools such as 5S, SBI, Risk-Assessments & COSHH
• Instrumentation awareness, experience of data acquisition tools, techniques and software
• Knowledge of GPIRS system for Prototype Bill of Materials review and Parts Management (including stores processes)
• Knowledge of Corvus, Snapshot, CANalyzer tools etc
• Experience of CAD Review Tools e.g. Team Centre and 3DLive for equipment packaging & component analysis
• HV Systems experience and knowledge of best practices
