Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design of mechanical assemblies, tooling, subassemblies, and components for existing machines and manufacturing layouts for new engineering projects.
Perform concept and detailed design and modelling of machines, tooling and components using Creo CAD software
Carry out engineering design analysis using ANSYS and other FEA tools
Generate supporting design documentation for approval
Generate detail cost estimates and writing of tender document
Design and modelling of manufacturing layouts for ergonomics, increased flow and reduction in WIP
Simulation and analysis of assembly line capacity modelling using simul 8 and other software packages
Analysis and balancing of assembly lines for mix model assembly using lean tools
Lead all process FMEA for existing and new projects
Build and maintain engineering tooling and drawings database, methods engineering, standards and best practices relating to mechanical design and fabrication
Take full ownership of assigned engineering projects and lead the planning, project management, and execution of multiple small-to-mid-scale projects
Participate in cross-functional core team initiatives to deliver designs to a schedule and on budget
Proactively identify and communicate technical and project risks to project sponsors
Assist with prototype builds; support the engineering team with testing as needed
Drive Lean thinking and continuous improvement through component re-use, standardized components and standard designs
Institute innovative designs and methods via new technology investigation and characterization, competitive design assessment, evaluation of new tools, and up-to-date monitoring of industry trends
A Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Design Engineering and working towards chartered engineer status
