Training Development/Instructor, Field Business Centres, Distribution Lines
Location: Peterborough
General Responsibilities:
Assist in the design and development of training programs(including e-learning) for centralized and decentralized training programs used by internal and external supervisory, clerical, technical and trades staff involved in the transmission and distribution of electricity. The methods include instructor led, computer based and distance learning technologies.
Assist in the development of new information resources (lesson) plans, course and lab content, quizzes, exams, tests) by applying training theory, technical resources, directives, standards, policies and regulations. Utilize cost effective information technology solutions in the training service. Act as the educational design resource for the department drawing on effective design methodologies for teaching adults.
Act as training design facilitator working with project teams, clients, technical specialists, suppliers, internal and external consultants, analyze performance problems and training requirements, prepare written documents and reports, and make recommendations for new or revised programs, methods, training manuals and reference materials.
Ensure efficient operation of training programs by using effective project management processes and tools scheduling, budgeting, preparing special reports and projects, purchasing, ensuring cost and control effectiveness. Ensure clients have accurate and timely reports and records.
Setup classrooms, simulations, equipment, supplies, manuals and reference materials for courses, upon occasion. Make presentations, provide advice, guidance to students, operate equipment and training aids, answer questions and guide group sessions. Mark assignments and set and make examinations, checkouts or other tests as required.
Identify training performance problems and causes, and determine the best solution (eg, training and/or job aids, if problem is a skill deficiency) through consultations with clients, and the application of various analysis techniques.
Assist in the development and maintenance of training evaluation vehicles to measure (i) trainee reaction (ii) acquired knowledge (iii) acquired skills (iv) on-the-job results.
Prepare and issue confidential reports on students# performance and capabilities according to established criteria. Evaluate courses for effectiveness and efficiency. Report results of investigations and assessments and make recommendations to appropriate line management authorities.
Assist in the review of the application and effectiveness of the internal training methodologies and recommend changes to achieve industry best practices.
Ensure training material is consistent with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), CSA and other standards and the Hydro One Safety Rules.
Assist in the coordination and effectiveness of contributions to yhe HOLMS Support Infrastructure.
Work with external training delivery agents including OPGI, E&USA and other utilities.
Perform other duties as required.
Essential Selection criteria:
Requires demonstrated experience working in the Distribution Field Business Centers (FBCs) with expert knowledge in Distribution lines processes related but not limited to: New connections, Upgrades, Disconnect Reconnect, Relocates, Joint Use and Storm restoration. A period of over 4 years and up to and including 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
Requires demonstrated experience in developing and delivering training both asynchronously and synchronously
Requires experience using the critical toolsets of the FBC such as SAP, PCAD, ORMS CAD, GIS and NOMS
Requires demonstrated track record of providing customer centric service
Selection criteria:
Education
Requires Knowledge of distance learning technologies, training and development theory and techniques to assist in the design and development of training programs.
Requires a knowledge of electricity, vehicle mechanics, physics and power systems related to the generation, transmission and distribution and retailing power.
Requires a good knowledge of English to make effective presentations, prepare reports and communicate effectively with others.
This knowledge is considered to be normally acquired either through the successful completion of a three-year university education in business administration or by having the equivalent level of education.
Experience
Requires field experience in the electrical technical areas to understand the practical aspects of the various occupations, related equipment, materials, methods, procedures and safety practices.
Requires experience to be familiar with training needs, procedures and practices and implementing training responses. A period of over 4 years and up to and including 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience.
Requires experience using the fundamental toolsets of the FBC such as SAP (planning, scheduling and customer service), PragmaCAD (scheduling), ORMS CAD (scheduling), GIS (planning) and NOMS (planning)
Requires demonstrated experience working in the Distribution Field Business Centers (FBCs) with expert knowledge in Distribution lines processes related but not limited to: New connections, Upgrades, Disconnect Reconnect, Relocates, Joint Use and Storm restoration. A period of over 4 years and up to and including 6 years is considered necessary to gain this experience
Requires experience in collating vast and complex sets of information into modules that are clear, accessible, and easy to consume by various audience types
Experience working with the full project lifecycle specifically: Project definition, planning, estimating, scheduling, and project execution is an asset
