The Associated Press seeks an experienced video journalist with a history of successful television or digital video storytelling to work on its premium video product, Horizons.
Responsibilities: Based in any major AP bureau in Europe and reporting to the head of video content development, you will help conceive and execute all stages of video coverage involving a diverse range of subjects, including health and science, general lifestyles and technology. You will be a core member of a tight-knit team and will help commission video, as well as going into the field to shoot or produce content. You’ll use video, graphics and editing techniques to deliver visually engaging journalism, working in close collaboration with AP’s all-formats staff around the world. You will also help coach colleagues and freelancers globally to produce high-level content to a required standard. You must have the ability and willingness to work at night and on weekends, as coverage demands, as AP is a 24/7 operation.
We’re looking for someone who will:
hold superior technical skills in video shooting and editing.
have the vision to create a story, and to work with multiple teams to drive that vision through to a produced and polished edit.
demonstrate experience visualizing information in compelling ways in video, joined with a track record of conceptualizing and implementing creative digital projects.
have strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with the diverse team of journalists at the AP who operate in all formats: text, photo, video, audio, digital/social, interactive and graphics.
have a great news sense, with the ability to communicate and drive stories that people will want to share, like and talk about on social media and other platforms.
pursue innovative and inclusive coverage techniques while maintaining AP’s standards for integrity and objectivity.
Preferred Qualifications: You must possess advanced individual technical skills in the creation and editing of video content, as well as the ability to apply those skills from start to finish on breaking news and short and long-term projects. You should have superior knowledge of Adobe Premiere, or a similar program. You must be able to tell a good story, and coach others to construct a narrative in a video edit. You’ll also have a strong general knowledge of news stories, health and science developments and technology developments. You must be able to work effectively as a member of a team and should have at least three years of full-time experience at a daily newspaper, broadcast station, online or digital news outlet, or an AP bureau or regional desk. Experience working with developers, external customers and partners is a plus.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
Authorization to work in the location where the position is based will be mandatory.
Advanced-level professional competency in written and spoken English. Professional competency in a language besides English is a plus.
Advanced-level professional competency in non-linear video editing is required.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple projects across formats and deliver success on complex, challenging story lines.
