Job Descrption
The Technology Ventures Office (TVO) facilitates and oversees technology transfer to government and industry, fosters collaborative research with the private sector, and manages the Laboratory’s Intellectual Property (IP) portfolio. In order to support the creation of increased transfer opportunities in complex federal and private-sector landscapes, the Laboratory is seeking an Associate to work under the mentorship and guidance of members of the (TVO). This position will be joining the Intellectual Property (IP) team to facilitate the protection of Lincoln Laboratory’s innovative technology assets, which serve as the foundation for technology transfers ranging from commercial licenses, collaborative research agreements, transfers for government use, open-source releases, and more.
Job Description

The ideal candidate would have broad technical skills, an understanding of intellectual property management (or capacity to learn such by doing), and facility with modern business pratcices. In addition, demonstrated ability to navigate professionally in a modern work environment with adaptability, humility, attention to detail, and persistence will be highly valued.
Review and analyze new technology disclosure submissions spanning broad technology areas across the Lab
Support development of patent strategies and patent prosecution, aligned with national priorities and product development goals of collaboration partners
Manage protection of non-patentable assets, such as copyrightable material, including open-source licensing
Conduct diligence on IP ownership and sponsorship, ensuring compliance with federal statute and contractual agreements
Initiate and perform prior art and commercial market assessments for select technologies in MIT Lincoln Laboratory’s intellectual property portfolio
Help facilitate broad internal awareness of IP assets for collaboration opportunities across LL staff in different departments
Serve as a resource to the MIT Lincoln Laboratory community on technology transfer pathways available through the Office of Technology Transfer
Requirements
Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD Degree from an accredited college or university, with major studies in physical sciences or engineering disciplines (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Optics, or similar)
Outstanding oral and written communication skills to present ideas in an understandable technical and non-technical manner
Strong organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring the efficient execution of IP management activities
Ability to interface with technical staff of various experience levels and technical areas, diplomatically balancing the goals of research staff with the administrative needs of the organization
Ability to work collaboratively as well as independently within an administrative office
An understanding of and affinity for the national security mission
U.S. Citizenship
Must be abel to obtain and maintain a security clearance
The following skills or attributes are highly desired:
An understanding of (or experience with) IP policies, practices, and regulations
Comfort working with and analyzing data, whether in spreadsheets or scientific programming tools (e.g., Python)
Experience working with modern software tools and databases in an environment promoting detailed record keeping and seamless organizational communication
2+ years of experience and proven track record in key functional areas (technology development, intellectual property, and licensing) in a federal laboratory setting
