As a Lead Quantity Surveyor within Strategic Infrastructure you will advise the Project Director and Contracts and Commercial Manager on best practice for HVDC related Contract Management, particularly for NEC and FIDIC based construction contracts. You’ll be responsible for assurance of the teams Contract Management, Risk management & estimating activities for appropriate Delivery Vehicles, to ensure all costs for assigned HVDC portfolio of projects are reviewed and robustly challenged.
You will work across one or multiples of our major strategic Infrastructure projects such as Eastern Green Link 1,2 or 4

· Experience of providing cost assurance of engineering projects carried out under the FIDIC/NEC form of contract, preferably options A,C and E
· Experience in contract management in a Construction environment
· Commercial acumen and supply chain management skills and the ability to train others
· Experienced in cost analysis, programme evaluation and the ability to train others
· Knowledge of earned value management and monitoring cost performance
· Experience of analysing and negotiating complex compensation events and variations and the ability to train others
· Knowledge of electricity transmission system
· Ability to prepare reports and collate information
· Experience of dispute resolution

Our recruiting managers split the main responsibilities into these key sections:
PROCUREMENT AND TENDERING
• Act as the Contracts and Commercial Team representative on tender and procurement events.
• With a Value for Money mindset; lead tender return evaluations, support tender negotiations, and Contract Award.
CONTRACT MANAGEMENT
• Lead & provide advice on the implementation of administrative procedures necessary to run a construction contract’ including but not limited to contract administration, cost risk analysis, dispute procedures, reporting procedures, etc.
• Lead in providing independent reviews and advice on complex variations and compensation events, and support the process of escalation and dispute avoidance / resolution.
• Attending project related meetings to support the Project Team in commercial and contractual matters.
• Ensure due diligence is consistent, high quality assurance & audit of the assigned projects including ensuring consistent processes are followed, safe storage of data, keeping on top of contractual communication time frame, ensuring contractual risks are tracked and the relevant is escalated through the reporting line.
COST CONTROL AND REPORTING
• Coordinate across the portfolio; monitor, report, and advise on project cashflows. Evaluate and advise on the financial implications and appropriate management actions.
• Coordinate the preparation & provide assurance on budget estimates including risk & contingency allowance at all stages of the project lifecycle.
• Lead the commercial processes (incl. detailed cost reports) and internal governance requirements (including change requests) are adhered to at all stages of the project lifecycle.
STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT
· Working with both internal & external stakeholders to support National Grid on regulator requirements.
· Leading the assessment of the team performance, lessons learned, stakeholder interfaces on projects, and stakeholder relationships.
MENTORING
• Support the assignment of schemes / tasks to QS & Junior QS within the team, also developing the individuals’ contracts and commercial skills.
• Act as a mentor to individuals within the team seeking to gain RICS accreditation.
A competitive starting salary between £60,000 – £70,000 dependent on capability.
