Finance Partner at National Grid
Warwick, United States

Job Descrption

As a nation, we’re working towards the goal of net zero carbon by 2050. At National Grid, we’re committed to helping Britain reach this target by building a cleaner, greener energy system. But we can’t do this alone. We're looking for people who are brimming with enthusiasm and bursting with ideas to help us build and run a cleaner energy system for the future. Are you up for the challenge?

We’re looking for a passionate Finance Partner to join our National Grid Ventures (NGV) Finance Team to support the commercial division of National Grid plc, to develop, operate, and invest in clean energy projects, technologies, and partnerships in the relevant business areas.

This role is based out of our Warwick office, and we’d hope to see you at least two days per week with Thursday being our anchor day. But you’re welcome to be in the office more often if that would work best for you. We’re happy to discuss any additional flexibility in working patterns or requirements that you feel could help to make this job work for you!

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide suitable management information to support project decisions and prepare materials for Investment Committees or Final Investment Decisions where required, or submission of government or regulatory submissions as needed.
  • Provide financial support on queries with government submissions and regulatory finance strategy and queries from partners.
  • Actively contribute to each business area to impact the shape of commercial and non-financial performance related decisions. Drive the management of performance, financial risks, and the implementation & maintenance of controls.
  • Support effective working relationships across finance and business services, aligning the service provided to the business requirement through the ‘embedded/focused/self-service’ model.
  • Shape the definition of value, key drivers which create value, and the KPIs which measure value; and ensure these are used to inform performance management, decision making, and planning for the future.
  • Support the long-term business & financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes to drive performance and support in the NGV-wide planning process.
  • Act as the finance lead on investment appraisal process for relevant business area, guiding decision making with insight and optimisation opportunities, to ensure that all current and future investments are made in line with the business strategy and value requirements.
  • Support the presentation of monthly results in a style suitable for both a finance and non-finance audience, delivering insight and highlighting priority areas for focus, ensuring efficiencies are optimised for the longer term.
  • Support development and management of a highly motivated, capable, and adequately resourced team, driving a performance-management culture that delivers value through employee engagement.

What You’ll Have:

  • Qualified Accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent).
  • The ability to understand the decisions and financial performance of senior stakeholders and their teams throughout the relevant business area – able to work with and challenge relevant stakeholders to develop and set a strategy for achieving financial, regulatory, and operational budgets and plans.
  • Proven ability to adapt style of financial information presentation to suit a range of stakeholders, both financial and non-financial.
  • Able to understand IFRS reporting concepts and assist in applying appropriate views to ensure the optimal outcome for the Business Unit / Function’s reported profits and financial position. Advanced Planning, forecasting and budgeting skills.
  • Under direction can manage stakeholder and community relationships effectively through actively listening and responding to stakeholder requirements.
  • Knows, and can explain to others, how National Grid operates and how their role delivers value for the business. Will seek commercial guidance and input from others when working on complex matters.
  • Uses business and industry knowledge and financial analysis to join the dots between long term strategy and financial performance, whilst dealing with ambiguity.
  • Able to work with and challenge relevant stakeholders to develop and set a strategy for achieving stretching forecast, budgets, and plans.

Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that women and people of colour are less likely to apply for jobs unless they meet every single qualification. At National Grid, we are committed to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace for everyone. So, if you’re excited about this role but your experience or qualifications don’t match the job description exactly, we encourage you to apply anyway. You might just be the right person for our growing business in this role or another one.
