About the Role:

 

AIB Group UK plc are looking for an experienced Strategist to lead our Strategy & Corporate Development team, the role will report directly to a member of the UK Leadership Team, Head of Strategy, Sustainability & Stakeholder Management.

 

As we enter a new strategic cycle, we have taken the opportunity to review our business structure to ensure we are setup for success.  This has created an exciting opportunity for a senior strategist who will not only help us shape and evolve our business but will also play an integral role in delivering business growth strategies.

 

You will also have an integral part in the identification, review and execution of investments, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures on behalf of the UK Company.

 

Key Responsibilities Include:

You will be working alongside the function lead, UKMD and the UK Senior Management Team to develop and evolve the UK strategy, lead ad hoc strategic reviews and provide insights into strategic challenges both from an enterprise and macro perspective.

 

You will also have an integral part in the identification, review and execution of investments, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures on behalf of the UK Company.

 

 

 

What you will bring:

 

  • Identifying internal and external opportunities for growth.
  • Creating an overarching strategic narrative on UK business priorities.
  • Playing an integral part in UK corporate development plans.
  • Providing insights on macro trends, competitive risks, regulatory developments.
  • Leads periodic in-depth strategic reviews on key business issues.
  • Leads and manages the strategic planning process.
  • Reviewing how we set up our business architecture for delivery of services either in the UK or Group for the benefit of the organisation and the customer
  • Creation of a communication strategy internally and externally.  Internally ensuring understanding whilst generating colleague engagement and confidence.  Externally creating confidence and belief in the viability of the company.

 

 

People

  • Leads and develops a motivated, cohesive and collaborative team that role modelling AIB’s brand values.
  • Ensures the team is appropriately resourced by sourcing and developing people with the skills needed for today and the future.
  • Promotes and role models a high-performing culture by setting clear and stretching goals and providing ongoing coaching and feedback.
  • Improve staff engagement by;
    • Ensuring staff understand the business strategy and how this translates to their role.
    • Promoting a culture of feedback, listen and learn.
    • Creating a regular rhythm of communication  using a variety of channels.
    • Champions UK initiatives including embedding conduct principles and professional standards across the function.

Minimum Criteria:  Please note that the following criteria form the basis of your answers on the application form.

 

  • Minimum 5 – 10 years relevant  experience in a  senior strategic role.
  • Experience of taking the lead in driving potential investments, mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures and divestitures.
  • High awareness of the importance of data and ability to interrogate and analysis of same
  • Understands all facets and drivers of the business, and ability to make decisions with recognition of short and long-term implications. 
  • High tolerance of ambiguity and ability to make high quality, holistic decisions under pressure.
  • Strong commercial and entrepreneurial acumen.
  • Ability to simplify and communicate complexity into understandable and practical implications and actions.
  • Ability to lead diverse teams and strong developer and mentor of people with coaching capability.
  • Authentic leadership skills with a passion for doing the right thing in a highly regulated environment.
  • A leader who is consistent with what they say and do, creating trust and confidence with both internal and external stakeholders.
