We have an exciting new opportunity as a Category Manager in the Energy & Renewable team working from our Coventry office, this role will be responsible for the strategic management and ownership of several purchasing categories through a structured category management approach.

 

The aim of the role is to deliver a sustainable supply chain to ensure Severn Trent’s external expenditure is effectively managed to deliver the lowest cost and highest standards.

 

The portfolio will contain contracts which are: high volume, medium value, medium risk and medium to high criticality.  The Category Manager will manage a portfolio with an annual spend of between £2m and £5m.  

 

Some of your other key accountabilities in this role will be:

 

  • Responsible for the strategic management of a number of purchasing categories with the aim of driving total of ownership improvements including supplier performance and supplier development with a view to making a significant contribution to Severn Trent’s Business Plan.
  • The principal accountabilities within these nominated categories are:
  • Profiling / researching supply markets and suppliers and assessing trends, opportunities and risks. Over time the post holder will be expected to develop an expert knowledge of the assigned category areas.
  • Developing and implementing category strategies which fulfil business requirements (costs and performance) and which recommend strategic sourcing options, tactics, implementation plans, commercial supply risks, whilst ensuring compliance with all legislative requirements.
  • In partnership with the stakeholders proactively lead all necessary tendering and supplier selection processes, ensuring that the STW tendering process is followed at all times.  Responsible for supplier selection, managing the tender process and implementing the contacts including the development of SLAs and KPIs.  Ensure that the requirements of SAP are incorporated into the negotiations for any new contracts (e.g. catalogues, Work Force Management, Asset Management).  In this way the Category Manager will develop and apply selection criteria and evaluation methodology which match the right suppliers with Severn Trent’s requirements.
  • Monitor usage of contracts implemented and put in place actions to maximize contract compliance e.g. effective communication with stakeholders and use of SAP catalogues, contracts and vendor lists.

 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

 

 We’re looking for someone with a commercial background, who has a good understanding of Category Management / Procurement processes. Professional qualifications like CIPS are not required but may be beneficial.
