Construction Manager at THE Production TEAM

Job Descrption

THEProductionTEAM are hiring a Construction Manager/Crew Boss on behalf of our Client, an industry leader in the provision of bespoke, temporary structures, event overlay and staging events, with substantial projects taking place across the music, sports, cultural, and public sector markets.   

 

As Construction Manager/Crew Boss you will coordinate all site-based works for construction equipment, covering suitable crew requests with regard to appropriate quantity, skills and experience to ensure safe construction within the set deadlines, acting as the first point of contact for all crew based on your site and liaising with the Crew Logistics Team for crew HR matters.

Liaise with the Project and Operations department to ensure all the requirements are in place prior to commencement on site. Areas covered: 

  • RAMS and associated Compliance documentation (H&S, Sustainability) 
  • Work with the Project and Ops Departments to create load list and transport schedules. 
  • Compiling container loads and packing list
  • Correct Site Set up and Safe Start Processes are in place and implemented.  
  • Correct number of crew, with appropriate skill sets for the project are requested. 
  • Assist with Programming / phasing of the build 

Once the site is active, continue to control all aspects of the build including: 

  •  Prepping of kit in the yard
  • Managing a safe and secure site. 
  • Managing the welfare facilities. 
  • Undertaking dynamic risk assessments, acting upon any risks or controls highlighted and documenting this process 
  • Confirming the correct equipment is on site for the upcoming works and liaising with the Project and Ops team to correct any issues found to prevent delays in the build process.
  • Reviewing histogram, plant, crew, tool requirements, etc.
  • Work to ensure the project remains on target in a safe manner, highlighting any risk to with regard to completion. 
  • Assisting with detailing of the structure, but not physically drawing them up – there are many things to sort out such as waterproofing of terrace and plant areas (which are open roof).

 

Overall tasks: 

  • Manage the on-site crew working to your direct line management and ensuring they have an efficient and effective working environment, this includes: 
  • Dealing with the daily HR concerns of the crew and, if required, escalating any issues to the Head of Logistics and/or Human Resources. 
  • Overseeing and planning all foreseeable works and relaying information to the site team via daily briefings and regular toolbox talks.
  • Ensure all crew sign in and out of the site they are controlling 
  • Oversee and approve the timesheets for the crew – Project Dependent 
  • If not already allocated, control the allocation of rooms and inform the Crew Logistics Manager who is occupying each room. 
  • On Site assessments of the crew, especially in regard to high risk activates such as plant operations, lifting etc. and recording these in the correct ESG defined process. 
  • Taking the responsibility of reporting any incidents, near misses and accident according to the level set by the Client's Compliance Team, Using the iAuditor systems, which will also be used for regular audits set by the Compliance Team
  • Mentoring the crew, assisting and guiding the crew to nurture the next generations of the Construction and Event crew at all levels. 
  • Report directly to the Head of Logistics, highlighting any skills/crew gaps, issues and providing constructive feedback for on-site processes and procedures. 
  • Maintaining the highest standards on site and leading by example, including correct use of PPE and working to ESG procedures. 
  • Maintaining a level of training as set by the Client's training matrix for the role of Construction Manager and undertaking any assessments, tests or documenting tasks to ensure this training is constantly achievable. 

 

Requirements

  • Interest in working in the Construction Event Industry is preferred
  • Good IT skills and a willingness to learn and use the IT based systems the Client set in place, such as iAuditor. 
  • Excellent time keeping, time management, site management and crew planning should be a core skill for the person undertaking this role. 
  • Excellent personal skills and experience in dealing with multiple crew members both employed and self-employed, with a strong character able manage crew issues when required. 
  • Experience working in a site and crew management-based role in a deadline driven environment. 
  • Basic understanding of HR requirements in relation to crew. 
  • Ability to read, understand and collate any required information from the Project and Compliance process, procedures, schedules and programs. 
  • Team based work ethic, experienced in working with different departments across the organisation to ensure suitable Crew Logistics planning is undertaken. 
  • Excellent personal presentation, helping to set an example across the organisation.
