Pay Range: $75,000 to $82,000/year

Position Overview:
JFS is looking for an experienced, dynamic leader to join the Center for Jewish Care at JFS. The Director will balance vision with execution, listening to the needs and interests of our community, and working curiously and creatively to develop meaningful engagement opportunities. The Director will build strong, collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders to maintain the Center’s role as a leader and advocate for the health and well-being of our Jewish community.
The JFS Center for Jewish Care (CJC) is a welcoming and compassionate space with dedicated staff, designed to help our Jewish community access critical services for immediate needs. At the heart of our approach is more than 100 years of unique cultural expertise and vital assistance to Jewish community members during their most challenging times. As the Home for Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World) and community connection, the Center of Jewish Care is also a place for our Jewish community to volunteer, participate in community projects and drives, and discover meaningful and authentic Jewish conversations the Center for Jewish Care has the bold vision to end Jewish poverty and strengthen community.
Overarching Goals:
- Informed by the most recent San Diego Jewish Community Study and through ongoing data collection, identify the unique and emerging needs and interests of our local Jewish community
- Strengthen engagement with the full range of stakeholders in the Jewish community
- Increase the Jewish community’s awareness of the full array of the Center’s programs and services
- Provide additional volunteer opportunities, particularly for Jewish youth, teens, and young adults
- Via a Jewish lens, foster community dialogue on current issues
Responsibilities:
- Provide vision and leadership to develop and execute an outreach and engagement strategy to increase awareness of the Center for Jewish Care as both a resource for culturally competent support and as a home for tikkun olam
- Coordinate with Volunteer Engagement and other JFS program directors to expand and manage individual and group mitzvah opportunities across JFS
- Cultivate Jewish community partnerships that benefit and strengthen the position and impact of the Center for Jewish Care, developing processes for partner relationship management
- In consultation with Marketing, guide the Center for Jewish Community communications strategy (i.e., CJC News You Can Use, social media, etc.)
- Expand opportunities to host uniquely Jewish conversations through the Community Conversations brand
- Develop a volunteer-based program to alleviate the loneliness and disconnection reported by Jewish community members across the age span
- Supervise and manage the CDSS Stop the Hate grant work, including the Jewish Community Emergency Response Coordinator
- Supervise and strengthen the partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters for the successful continuation of the Jewish Big Pals program
Other Director Responsibilities
- Recruit, hire, and oversee training and orientation of community engagement staff members
- Manage, coach, and evaluate team performance, maximizing individual strengths, setting measurable goals, and fostering a productive and positive work environment
- Track and report on the Center’s community engagement efforts using data to inform decisions and evaluate measurable impact
- Develop and monitor program and department budgets, track expenditures, and project budget variances
- With the support of Institutional Giving, prepare grant proposals and reports, ensuring all deliverables are met
- Support Development with donor relations specific to the Center for Jewish Care
- Support team in building and maintaining collaborative, respectful, and trusting relationships with other internal service departments, including People & Culture, Accounting, Technology Services, Development, Operations, and Marketing
- Other duties as assigned
Skills/Experience/Abilities That Are a Must-Have:
- Bachelor’s degree required
- At least 5 years of experience working in nonprofit management
- At least 2 years of experience working in a Jewish communal role, preferably within San Diego
- At least 2 years of experience in community engagement, outreach, or development
- Previous experience building and managing budgets, including grants management
- Strong project management skills managing complex, multifaceted projects resulting in measurable successes and program growth
- Strength in hiring, managing, retaining, and developing teams, empowering them to elevate their levels of responsibility and performance
- Ability to show positive regard those who turn to JFS for support, including Holocaust survivors and low-income populations
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
- Proficient in the use of technology as a management and communication tool, specifically Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint) and experience using CRM
- Valid driver’s license and transportation required, and an ability and willingness to travel throughout San Diego County
- Sit or stand for long periods of time
- Use a computer, keyboard, monitor, printer
