A Principal Officer Metrology to work within Trading Standards at Lancashire County Council.
Are you a qualified Metrology specialist, who has the technical knowledge and skills to deliver our statutory obligations? Our Metrology Team within the Trading Standards Service is a specialised team working alongside other multidisciplinary experts including food standards and animal health / agriculture. We provide essential statutory services to a variety of internal and external stakeholders. Our role is to advise, guide and encourage legal compliance, with enforcement when necessary, to protect both the businesses and consumers within Lancashire. We are excited to welcome a Principal Officer Metrology to lead and develop the delivery of statutory Legal Metrology activity within Lancashire.
What we are searching for…
Advise & Influence - We are seeking a Metrology expert to supervise the provision of legal metrology functions and calibration activities. The appointed officer will be expected to act as the technical focus person for legal metrology, supporting businesses, colleagues, partners and senior managers in all matters relating to the subject. You will be a fully qualified Trading Standards professional with substantial contemporary experience of applying authoritative knowledge of metrology legislation in the fulfilment of our statutory responsibilities. You will direct a team of officers in the undertaking of those responsibilities in order to influence and encourage local businesses to meet their statutory obligations for a fair trading environment. Additionally, the role includes overseeing the operation of a calibration facility and comprehensive metrology equipment resource including a weighbridge test unit. With your technical expertise you will assess, evaluate and plan the targeted use of all resources.
The appointed person will also act as the strategic representative for the Service within relevant regional and national collaborative bodies.
