Vice President, Game Operations at NFL

Overview /Objective

NFL Football Operations is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Vice President of Game Operations. This position will play a pivotal role in overseeing and managing all aspects of Game Operations for the National Football League (domestically and internationally), including strategic and long-range planning, ensuring the smooth and efficient operations of NFL games and other league-wide events and initiatives, and upholding the integrity of the game by ensuring competitive equity across the League. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of professional sports operations, strong leadership capabilities, and strategic vision to drive the NFL’s continued success. 

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements comprehensive strategies for optimizing game day operations across all NFL stadiums, ensuring consistency, efficiency, and a standard of excellence
  • Oversees the development, application, and enforcement of Game Operations policies, providing guidance and clarification to Club personnel, players, and Game Officials 
  • Manages all aspects of Game Operations, including game day oversight, weather monitoring, team operations, and contingency planning 
  • Oversees, in collaboration with various internal departments, the identification, evaluation and feasibility of potential game site locations related to Game Operations 
  • Develops robust contingency plans and protocols to address potential crises or emergencies/disruptions impacting League operations, such as natural disasters, severe weather, or public health emergencies
  • Develops and implements Player Health & Safety initiatives as they relate to the game, working closely with NFL Player Health & Safety and NFL Management Council 
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with key stakeholders, including League executives, NFL teams, stadium operators, NFL Players Association, media partners, other sports leagues, and vendors 
  • Provides guidance in the planning and approval of new stadiums, facilities, and renovations
  • Responsible for oversight of field management (ensuring mandatory practices are upheld while proactive on future advancements in the turf industry) 
  • Collaborates with NFL Football Technology on the development, implementation, and oversight of all game day football technology
  • Fosters a culture of continuous improvement within the Game Operations department, proactively identifying areas for enhancement, implementing best practices, and improving processes and workflows
  • Oversees Team Operations for the Super Bowl and International games, ensuring seamless operations and team support
  • Travels to NFL games (preseason, regular season and postseason, International Series, Pro Bowl and Super Bowl), NFL combines, and other development programs, college All Star games, NFL Draft, and in-season and offseason meetings

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business administration, sports management, or a related field; advance degree preferred. 
  • Minimum 15 years’ experience in sports management, event operations, or a related field, preferably within professional or collegiate sports 
  • Proven leadership experience, with a track record of successfully managing teams and driving organizational change
  • Multi-lingual preferred, but not required

  • Strong analytical/critical thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset to anticipate and address operational challenges 
  • Ability to interpret policy and support decision-making 
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail and delivering results
  • Flexibility to work irregular house, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required by the demands of the NFL season and special events
  • Passion for football and a commitment to upholding the values and integrity of the NFL
  • Strong computer skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint

Salary / Pay Range

The NFL expects to hire for this position near the middle of the range. Only in truly rare and exceptional circumstances, where an external candidate has experience, credentials or expertise that far exceed those required or expected for the position, would the NFL consider paying a salary or rate near the higher end of the range. 

Terms / Expected Hours of Work

  • NFL employees are required to work 40 hours per week. This role will require additional hours on nights and on weekends, especially during the football season.
