Assistant Director- Airport Emergency Management Fire Safety at City of Atlanta

Job Descrption

Salary range: $80,127-$133,474

The Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) is committed to providing the traveling public, airport workers, and companies/tenants conducting business on airport property with fire-safe facilities. The Airport EM Fire Safety Assistant Director is responsible for effectively implementing and enforcing ATL's Fire Safety Policy/Fire Safety Program. In addition, the position is responsible for conducting inspections of new and existing buildings, issuing, and following up on non-compliance notices, evaluating fire protection plans and practices, analyzing fire protection systems and equipment, construction, and fire protection elements of proposed sites, and performing related clerical functions. Furthermore, the Airport EM Fire Safety Assistant Director is responsible for ensuring the safe and smooth operation of the ATL Fire Training Center by fully complying with Local, State, and Federal requirements.

Essential Duties

Strategically plans and manages the airport's 15 million-dollar live-fire training complex.

Develops and implements a state-of-the-art business model and marketing program for the Fire Training Center for non-aeronautical revenue generation.

Ensures that all minimum fire safety program elements required by the Airport fire safety policy and procedures are correctly, adequately implemented, and consistently enforced.

Conducts inspections, including after-hours inspections, of airport facilities to ensure compliance with the Fire Safety Program, applicable fire codes, and ordinances.

Prepares in-depth documentation of inspections, including written and photographic materials, providing guidance for correction, and conducting follow-up inspections to ensure implementation of corrective measures.

Maintains fire safety procedures and verifies that airport tenants conduct fire prevention and fire emergency response training following fire code regulations.

Interprets various laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations to enforce safety regulations and fire prevention codes following national, state, and county standards.

Assesses fire hazards and mitigate risks associated to those hazards.

Exercises managerial responsibilities to include budgeting, monitoring, and evaluating performance, coaching, mentoring, and developing staff, approving leave, and taking corrective and disciplinary actions as appropriate.

Provides exemplary customer service and maintains an excellent working relationship with internal and external stakeholders, demonstrating a willingness to be attentive, understanding, responsive, fair, courteous, and respectful.

Conducts briefings and presentations to airport executives, board members, and elected officials as necessary.

Efficiently delivers comprehensive lessons related to fire safety to a diverse audience in the physical and virtual classroom.

Develops effective curriculum and teaching strategies, such as active learning, to capture students' attention and improve knowledge retention.

Conducts regular assessments and benchmark tests to keep our fire safety program and the Fire Training Center current with industry standards.

Coordinates and executes several exercises, such as but not limited to evacuation exercises within DOA facilities.

May respond to emergencies without prior or minimum notification.

Performs other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities:

Knowledge of Fire Protection systems operations.

Thorough knowledge of NFPA Fire Safety Codes and safety requirements.

Demonstrated analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to effectively coordinate and resolve multiple and frequently conflicting projects and priority issues.

Proven ability to work independently, be a dedicated team member, and demonstrate written and verbal communication skills.

Minimum Qualifications and Certifications

Education

A bachelor's degree in Fire Science, Emergency Management, Airport Management, or a closely related field.

Experience

Five (5) to seven (7) years of demonstrated experience in Fire Service or public safety, including building inspections for code compliance and developing and implementing code-compliant evacuation plans.

Certifications

1.     FEMA National Incident Command System Certifications: ICS-100, 200, 700, and 800.

2.     FEMA National Incident Command System Certifications: ICS – 300 & 400 or able to obtain within 18 months of hire.

Special Requirements: Individuals must successfully undergo an FBI fingerprint-based criminal history records check and a security threat assessment with no convictions for disqualifying crimes within the last ten years.
