Orbex are looking for someone join our team as a 1st line IT support engineer for our team in Forres, Scotland. You will be supporting the team with a wide range of tasks so that they can focus on the development of our launch vehicle!
The role will be broad, with good opportunities to grow and make the job your own.
You will be provided with significant training although existing 1st line/2nd line support experience would be beneficial. We are looking for someone who can work autonomously, solving problems as they pop up, plan some more complex tasks and lean on the IT manager for support where required.
Job Summary
The IT support engineer will provide effective IT assistance across all aspects of the business and will provide back up and support to the second and third line.
The position is responsible for supporting and maintaining the Servers and Desktops operating systems and Microsoft Office 365 environment plus general maintenance of all IT-related hardware/software, experience with network security is expected and ideally experience working on Linux. The position provides exposure to a broad range of IT-related projects and activities.

Key Duties & Responsibilities - To provide 1st, Line desk side and remote IT support
- Solve Company-wide information systems problems
- Maintain security arrangements for all IT systems
- Assist with and implement IT solutions (hardware and software) to assist in achieving business targets
- Maximise and promote system utilisation by all users, providing relevant training where necessary
- Maintain documentation for all systems (hardware and software). To include all applications installed and network topology/diagrams
- Assist with software licensing to ensure legality
- Undertake system monitoring, including disk space and maintenance to ensure system integrity, and minimisation of down time
- Undertake network cabling adjustments as and when requested to ensure all PCs and peripheral devices are connected and accessible
- Liaising with external suppliers
Desirable SkillsOrbex are ideally looking for motivated staff who can work independently and escalate issues to the IT manager when required, we are happy to offer training but the more experience you have with the following, the better. Attitude and culture fit are by far the most important things to us, if you are motivated, have some grounding in IT and excited by this role we would welcome your application. That being said, any experience of the following would be desirable:
- Previous experience in 1st Line support role
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Microsoft Windows 10
- Microsoft Server 2019
- Microsoft Office 365
- Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, DHCP and DNS
- Good understanding of Network Technology VLAN and IP routing protocols.
- An understanding of Wireless network technologies
- Understanding of SIP/IP Telephone Systems
- Understanding of Enterprise anti-virus suites
- An understanding of Back-up technologies (Veeam, Symantec Backup Exec etc.)
- VMware Certification
- Good understanding of Security Firewalls
- VMware ESX, vSphere, vMotion configuration, management and support
- To work within defined budgets. Ensuring that quotes are obtained and purchases are authorised and signed off by the IT Manager
- The care of IT and technical equipment both used in own role and in the provision and installation of equipment across the business.
Location
This role is based in Forres at Orbex’s headquarters.

Security
You must be a UK or European citizen or from a country that is a signatory to the MTCR convention. You may be required to undergo BPSS security screening including a criminal record check.
