An exciting opportunity has arisen to join us as Group Chief Medical Officer (CMO). As part of our Group Executive leadership team and a voting member of our Trust Board, the Group CMO plays a crucial role in shaping the Trust's clinical strategy, ensuring the delivery of safe, compassionate, and effective care for our diverse population. Reporting directly to the Group Chief Executive, this role is integral to the leadership and transformation of clinical services across our hospitals.
As Group CMO, you will be responsible for leading the Trust's plans to improve clinical outcomes, reduce health inequalities, and ensure that high standards of care are consistently met across all sites. Working closely with the Chief Nursing Officer, you will foster a multidisciplinary approach to clinical care, prioritising patient safety and experience through robust clinical governance frameworks. You will also collaborate... with the Director of Strategy and Partnerships to drive clinical transformation, ensuring our hospitals are well-positioned to take advantage of new technologies and innovations.
As the professional leader for our medical workforce, you will inspire a culture of continuous improvement and excellence, while providing leadership for several key group-wide functions, including Pharmacy, Public Health, and our Education Academy.
Main duties of the job
Additionally, you will lead the Trust's research initiatives in collaboration with Queen Mary University of London and other academic establishments, ensuring that they contribute to addressing health inequalities.
You will play a key role in developing and delivering the Trust's clinical strategy, fostering innovation, and aligning with regional and national healthcare priorities.
The Group CMO will also be instrumental in leading clinical engagement across the Trust, motivating and empowering clinical colleagues. Externally, you will work closely with other system CMOs and regional partners to tackle common healthcare challenges and deliver high-quality, equitable care across north-east London.
We are seeking an exceptional candidate with substantial experience in medical leadership and a proven track record in medical leadership at senior levels, preferably at Board level. The ideal candidate will bring a deep understanding of clinical governance, quality improvement, and experience leading complex organisational change. You will have a passion for reducing health inequalities, a strategic mindset, and the ability to influence and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders. Your leadership style will be inclusive, dynamic, and transformational, with a commitment to continuous quality improvement.

Essential
• Substantial experience at consultant level in a large teaching NHS Trust
• An outstanding track record as a clinician and clinical leader, with a proven record of producing high quality clinical services for patients
• Significant senior medical leadership in a large teaching NHS Trust, preferably at Board level
Skills

• Ability to lead a multi-professional team, both when directly managed and in a matrix management model
• Able to work collaboratively with the Chief Nursing Officer, ensuring that both divisions operate as one in the setting of clinical standards and monitoring of quality
• Ability to think and plan strategically, tactically and creatively and translate strategies into delivery plans
