We are recruiting for a Highly Specialised Dietitian who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.

This is a great opportunity to join our friendly, passionate and caring team of Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre and to advance your team leadership skills.

You will jointly lead on the development of the Dietetic Service and also work closely with other AHPs (Speech and Language Therapists, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Radiographers), take an active role in education, and be part of our new AHP-led lung prehabilitation pilot.

Main duties of the job

Demonstrate in-depth knowledge and experience within the oncology field and act as a source of specialist knowledge and advice to the wider MDT and external services.

Jointly... lead the development of the Nutrition and Dietetic Service, with support from the AHP Head of Therapies and Deputy Head of Therapies. This will include planning, delivering and evaluating high quality, evidence-based dietetic services, in line with Mount Vernon Cancer Centre's Clinical Strategy and AHPs Strategic Aims.

Provide effective clinical leadership and line management to the Nutrition and Dietetics service, including supervising specialist clinical staff, assistant practitioners and students.

Lead on collating the Dietetic Team's statistical data and complete evidence-based audits and research projects.

Show commitment to service redesign and implement positive changes to practice. Contribute to improving service standards, protocols and clinical care pathways.

Work collaboratively with the wider AHP Team, including representing AHP Therapies internally and externally, and being committed to raising the profile of AHPs at Mount Vernon Cancer Centre.
Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
• Diploma or Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics
• Member of BDA
• Current HCPC registration
• Evidence of post graduate education / qualification
• Member of BDA Specialist Oncology Group
Previous Experience
• Experience of working at postgraduate level with adults with cancer - ideally within NHS setting
• Experience of supervising junior staff and students
• Experience of delivering training to other professionals, patients and/or carers
• Experience of working with patients with a palliative diagnosis
• Experience of service development, including planning, leading and implementing audits / projects
• Experience working with private patients
• Experience in recruitment process and/or improving staff retention
Skills
• Able to manage time effectively, to prioritise, and to support junior staff to manage their caseload
• Excellent clinical, analytical and reasoning skills, including expert nutritional assessment, treatment and care planning
• Competent in enteral feeding and the management of home enteral feeding
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to modify skills as needed
• Able to work effectively within a team and also on own initiative
• Able to teach and motivate others
• Able to reflect on own practice and that of others in order to deliver the best possible care
• Information Technology skills including: e-mail, Word, Excel & Power Point
• Ability to keep accurate and legible patient records
• Ability to work under pressure and demonstrate flexibility with rapidly changing circumstances
Knowledge
• Specific clinical expertise e.g. having an in-depth understanding of the effects of chemotherapy and radiotherapy on the nutritional status of patients with cancer
• Knowledge of relevant evidence-based practice and clinical guidelines, including ability to apply knowledge to clinical practice
• Thorough knowledge of enteral feeding systems
