The Waste Sortation Officer position at Bristol Airport involves several key responsibilities. Primarily, the role entails operating on the picking line, where waste bags from 1100-liter holding bins are removed and meticulously sorted into four distinct waste streams—glass, plastic bottles, coffee cups, and metal cans. Once sorted, the officer transfers the waste to the appropriate baler or 1100-liter bin. Daily tasks include reporting any contamination issues to the Waste Supervisor and ensuring the cleanliness and operational safety of the Material Recovery Facility (MRF) or sortation unit. This involves regular maintenance, such as PAT testing, with any issues promptly reported to the supervisor.
Furthermore, the role requires a comprehensive understanding of the cleaning processes, including the specific tasks and allocated timeframes. The officer is responsible for... maintaining designated areas to a prescribed standard of cleanliness as per client requirements, following directives for daily, weekly, and periodic cleaning tasks. Additionally, familiarity with all cleaning equipment, materials, and approved chemicals used on-site is essential, necessitating attendance at relevant training sessions.
Health and safety compliance is paramount, encompassing adherence to regulations, policies, and protocols set by both the company and the client. This includes the careful handling of products and diligent maintenance of equipment, as well as the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). The officer must also adhere to site rules at all times, including guidelines on attire and the use of safety signage like Wet Floor Warning Signs.
Administratively, the role requires timely reporting of maintenance issues, as well as the use of Workplace Plus to log arrival and departure times. Moreover, the officer is expected to handle any job-related complaints and promptly escalate issues to the Waste Supervisor as necessary. Additional Information-
The role offers a structured work schedule of 4 days on followed by 4 days off, including Bank Holidays and weekends as they align with the shift rotation. Flexibility is required to work overtime as needed to cover colleagues' holidays. Bank Holidays are compensated at twice the regular hourly rate. Employees are entitled to 23 days of annual leave per year. The daily work hours span from 6 am to 4 pm, totaling 9 hours per day with an unpaid one-hour break. The hourly rate for the position is £12, subject to annual review on the 1st of April
