The role overview

As the Field and Workshop Technician, you'll be based in London - Leyton, with primary responsibilities for maintaining customer coffee machines both on-site and in the workshop. Duties include receipting goods, completing paperwork, dismantling machines for repair, troubleshooting, performing preventative maintenance, replacing parts, and preparing machines for dispatch and installation. You'll also clean parts to ensure proper functionality.

This role involves managing a constant workflow, prioritising tasks, and supporting the field team in maintaining customer machines. It's a developmental position, with 1-2 days in the workshop and the rest in the field. You may also reinstall equipment you've serviced.

Training includes time with our Workshop Coordinator and Senior Technician, followed by independent work. We offer regular upskilling sessions, both in-house and external. A hybrid van is provided for work use, with ongoing support from our experienced team.

The role responsibilities

At the heart of this role is the maintenance and repair of espresso coffee machines and equipment, primarily based in the workshop. Additionally, you will take on a crucial field role, ensuring the ongoing upkeep and optimal performance of our customers' coffee machines and related equipment.

Workshop based
• Prepare equipment ready for installation.
• Refurbish, service & repair of ex-rental equipment.
• Regularly communicate with your line manager to discuss daily work schedule, identify communication with customers and highlight where follow-ups are required.
• You will always adhere to standard operating procedures and work processes.
• You will require a base level of fitness and good health is require as you will manually lift all equipment throughout the working day.
• You will require good manual dexterity as you will use hand tools daily to repair and fit new parts.
• An ability to record accurate and detailed inventory and invoicing records as well as question and report any anomalies.
• You will manage regular communication with our Technical Service Coordinator in Cornwall.
• You will communicate with departments across the business and communicate relevant information in a timely and accurate manner.
• You will ensure all interactions represent the cores values and behaviours of Origin Coffee.

Field based
• React to maintenance issues with our ever-growing customer base in London and the home counties.
• Identify and carry out planned preventative maintenance in line with service scheduled workload.
• Responsible for the installation of traditional espresso coffee machines and hot water systems.
• Responsible for installing water filtration systems.
• Represent Origin when customer facing including managing and communicating expectations around equipment usage.
• Making sure your van is kept in an orderly fashion with a constant replenished parts stock for those emergency situations.
• Implementing any stock/parts movement through our service app and liaising with the Workshop Coordinator when doing so.
• Working closely with our Technical Service Coordinator to help and plan your diary management
• Overtime maybe required from time to time as jobs can go over their allocated time frame.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

About you

• You are highly organised, with strong skills in managing and prioritising multiple tasks and activities.
• You take initiative and consistently deliver results on time, even in dynamic and fast-paced, time pressured environments.

Desirable Experience
• Mechanical experience is preferred but not essential, as training will be provided.
• Barista training is beneficial, as familiarity with espresso machines is valuable, but training will be provided if needed.
• Demonstrable experience working independently and as part of a team aligned with core values and business objectives.
• Ideally, understanding of the goods-in and goods-out process.

• Full UK Driving License.
