Overview of project/role
We are looking for a team member with significant rolling stock engineering experience with strong focus on Mechanical engineering. You will be joining a dynamic and proactive Engineering team focussed on ensuring our engineering rolling stock fleet remains operational and fully compliant to support LU’s infrastructure maintenance. This is an exciting and hands on role interfacing with operational and maintenance teams, project teams as well as different engineering teams within TfL. You will have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills and to identify innovation opportunities. To succeed, you should have significant rolling stock engineering experience with strong focus on electrical engineering.
Key Accountabilities
• Accountable for reviewing and scrutinising... supplier technical designs, reports and assurance documentation to ensure standards are in accordance with compliance, safety, reliability, maintainability and availability of EV assets at all times.
• Collaborate with Capital investment Programmes supporting the delivery of new assets.
• To challenge and offer professional advice to assure the development /delivery of a high-quality engineering assets.
• Coach, mentor and develop colleagues to share knowledge and grow technical expertise in relation to engineering vehicle assets.
• Support in the delivery of robust quality assurance to improve the standards by providing technical competence to assurance and audit activities.
• Ensure customer requirements are fully defined and understood, in clear concise and controlled specifications and designed developed to support a full understanding of train systems by technical/non-technical.
• Provide technical assurance of suppliers’ product under delegated activity from Asset Engineers to enable product approvals.
• Ability to support design Engineering and incident investigations to ensure issues are resolved quickly.
• Maintaining a working knowledge of applicable standards, design codes and legislation.
• An advocate of LEAN and continuous improvement, through use of best practice, innovation, whole life optimisation and route cause analysis
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
Essential:
• Hold a professional qualification in a relevant Engineering discipline
• Proven experience covering design, specification, procurement, maintenance and refurbishment of rolling stock mechanical and train-borne systems.
• An understanding of – or the ability to quickly assimilate an understanding of the Railway Safety Principles and Guidance, the Railways and other Transport Systems (Approval of Works, Plant and Equipment) regulations, LUL Corporate and Engineering Standards.
• Be self-motivated, numerate, cost conscious and possess a high level of analytical skills.
• High planning and organisations skills supported by strong verbal and written communication+
• Able to interpret technical documents including specifications, drawings, and technical / maintenance manuals
Desirable:
• Full corporate membership of an appropriate Engineering Institution is desirable.
• Knowledge of Systems Engineering, Human Factors engineering and RAMS techniques.
• Knowledge of "On Track" Machines / Plant Equipment and relevant standards is desirable.
