We are looking to recruit a Exhibitions Workshop Manager to join our team based in London. You will join us on a full -time, fixed term contract of 12 months, and in return, you will receive a competitive salary of £34,900 per annum.
The Royal Air Force Museum is a national museum, a Government non-departmental public body (NDPB) and a registered charity, with two sister sites at London and Midlands. Our purpose is to share the RAF story, past, present and future – using the stories of its people and our collections in order to engage, inform and inspire. Purpose of the Exhibitions Workshop Manager role is to:
You will play an important role in managing the Museum’s London workshop facility, working closely with the Museum Technician to construct, install, maintain and repair elements of gallery displays such as bespoke mounts, plinths and display stands for Museum objects in permanent galleries and temporary exhibitions.
Key responsibilities of our Exhibitions Workshop Manager include:
• Working closely with the Museum Technician and report to the Head of Exhibitions and Interpretation
• Cultivating partnerships with external stakeholders, contractors and consultants such as exhibition designers, graphic designers, model makers, exhibition construction contractors, quantity surveyors, planning supervisors and contract administrators
• Providing effective prioritisation and resourcing of the Workshop team
• Designing, manufacturing and installation of exhibitions plinths and displays
• Designing, manufacturing, finishing and installing of bespoke stands and mounts in metal, perspex and wood, to allow the safe display of our very varied collection
• Managing projects within a multi-disciplinary team on schedule and within budget
• Developing Health & Safety policies and procedures, ensuring they are shared appropriately and respected at all times
What we are looking for in our Exhibitions Workshop Manager:
• Appropriate trade related qualification in a related technical discipline or equivalent experience gained in a workshop environment
• Woodwork and joinery, metalwork, perspex, welding and brazing skills
• Communicates in a straightforward manner, demonstrating respect and acting with integrity and impartiality
• Recognises scope of own authority for decision making and empowers team members to make appropriate decisions
• Uses specialist professional//technical expertise and operating knowledge to its fullest extent, where appropriate
