Senior Project Manager - Construction SME at Quast Ltd

Job Descrption

Our client, a large Defence supplier, is looking for an experienced Senior Project Manager – Construction SME to join their team. The role will operate within a project team at a large secure government department in Cheltenham.

The client requires a minimum of 3 days/week working on site but are open to hybrid working at other times. You will be asked to specify your requirements during the application process.

Initial contract will be scheduled to run for 220 days (circa 1 year). Rate is determined by SFIA bands and candidates will therefore be considered for rates depending on their experience:

  • SFIA band 4 experience, the maximum rate is up to £650/day.
  • SFIA band 5 experience, the maximum rate is up to £780/day.
  • SFIA band 6 experience, the maximum rate is up to £900/day.

IR35 STATUS: Inside IR35. Our client has indicated that they intend to operate the engagement as Inside IR35. Candidates would be required to operate through an FCSA registered umbrella company on this engagement. The rates above represent rate payable to the umbrella co.

DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS: 23/05/2024 at 12:00

This role requires candidates to hold current Enhanced DV clearance. As these are for requirements for contract resource, for early start, and due to the timescales to gain new clearances, candidates without current clearance cannot be considered on this occasion.

Role Description

As a Senior Project Manager and Construction SME, your first project comprises several work packages, including the delivery of a large complex new build facility. There is an established team of delivery professionals from a variety of backgrounds and made up from the end user, customer and supply chain partners. The team works in a highly collaborative environment, all focused on delivering a high-quality project and service for the customer.

A successor is sought for the retiring incumbent to providing leadership to the delivery team and as a construction SME within this project and others within the programme.

The role includes a level of support to account managers in developing and growing products and services and working within bid teams to secure new work. Within the Project Delivery Practice, the successful candidate will also contribute to the Built Environment Community of interest, providing knowledge and expertise to Global programmes and support the development of junior staff and those new to the market.

Leadership

Lead and motivate Project Delivery Teams in line with processes and standards, to achieve successful project delivery to Time/Cost/Quality, in line with contract and to satisfaction of client. Provide subject matter expertise to the project and programme and wider business and operational support to the Project Director and core Project Management Team. 

Operations and Bidding

Support the Account Directors to manage the practice resource pool ensuring the projects are staffed with adequate qualified and experienced resources. Build and maintain close client relationships to ensure AtkinsRealis maintains continuity of the delivery team throughout the lifetime of the project. 

Candidate Requirements

  • Proven experience in leadership roles within major and/or complex projects and understanding of the support and tools to succeed.
  • Proven strong commercial, construction procurement and project financial knowledge.
  • A high level of technical construction knowledge and experience of having delivered large complex projects.
  • Outstanding leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated strong collaborative behaviours.
  • Strong performance driven culture.
  • Ability to lead and manage internal staff, contingent labour and 3rd Party Suppliers.
  • Ability and desire to engage with clients to fulfil market and client needs.
  • Prior knowledge and experience of specialist construction in the Built Environment is desirable.
  • A good understanding and experience of NEC4 contracting is highly desirable.

The Individual

  • Experience of shaping and contributing to the leadership of a large project delivery team comprising a range of professionals from multiple organisations.
  • Ability to influence project technical and delivery staff and collaborate effectively to achieve successful outcome driven projects.
  • A flexible and innovative and proactive individual, able to keep calm under pressure and working to often demanding client timelines.
  • A high expectation of performance for themselves and other members of the team, coupled with a drive for continuous improvement.
  • Customer focused with excellent relationship management skills.
  • A high level of construction experience and knowledge of complex major projects.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organisational and communication skills, verbal and written.
  • Good commercial knowledge and experience - understands contracts and able to manage internal and external change effectively.
  • Good knowledge and experience of implementing and operating Project Governance, Controls and Reporting including Planning, Risks/Issues, Finance and Change Control.
  • Knowledge of project financial processes including experience of project cost control and ability to interpret and report financial data and analysis. 

Key Success Measures

  • Integrate into the established Project structure.
  • This is a ‘Client-Side’ role within the core Project Leadership Team.  Support and deputise where necessary for the Project Leadership.
  • Delivery of the Project to the agreed schedule.
  • Provide leadership, direction and management to the AtkinsRealis team members.
  • Ensure alongside the Client Leads that the Project is adequately resourced.
  • Work with the Supplier team to ensure they deliver to time, budget and performance.
  • Support and the wider supply chain partners to foster a one team approach.
  • Be the lead Project manager for the client-side design and construction project elements.
  • Providing Programme wide construction related advice as required.
  • Adherence to the appropriate project governance and service delivery process.

Candidate Eligibility

Candidates must be eligible to work in the UK, this role will not offer Visa sponsorship. Tier 2 – General visas cannot be accepted.
