Location: Bishopsgate Police Station
Salary: According to the National Police Pay Scales plus £8,362 in London Allowance and London Weighting, a generous pension scheme, a free Oyster card for London (TFL) travel and subsidized national rail travel, which allows you to travel within a 70-mile radius.
This post currently attracts a £3,000 per annum firearms payment.
There is no specific London Residency criteria. All eligible candidates across the UK are welcome to apply.
Description of Department:
The City of London Police is looking for 7-8 experienced ARVO PC’s to join our Tactical Firearms Group. The ARVs provide the 24-hour firearms response to both spontaneous and planned operations in the City as well as supporting the Force in a... number of other areas and across the Metropolitan policing area.
The TFG form part of the critical protection plan for national infrastructure within the City of London, including various tier 1 sites and crowded spaces.
This role also provides the opportunity to develop your Firearms career and undertake additional skills of Operational Firearms Commander (OFC), Tactical Advisor (TA), National Protection Officer (NPO) and National Firearms Instructor (NFI).

Eligibility Criteria:
Essential Criteria:
• Current accreditation to national standards for the ARVO role profile with a proven level of competence in training and operational deployment. Current CBRN qualification, future course planned or ability to undertake one should you be successful. (Training records will need to be uploaded/sent to HR at point of application being submitted.)
• Medically fit for role profile.
• Currently serving in a recognised Home Office Force having completed required probationary period within a Home Office Force.
• Attain the minimum national fitness levels – JRFT 9.4
Desirable criteria :
• Operational Firearm Commander (OFC),
• National Protection Officer (NPO)
• Advanced Driver,
• Firearms Tactical Advisor (TA).

Once you have submitted your application form your application will be subject to an eligibility process.
If successful, you will be invited to undertake a job-related fitness test (JRFT) of 9.4 and an interview before progressing through to medical assessment.
The application and interview will be tested under Level 1 of the College of Policing Competency and Values Framework.
Successful candidates will undertake a bespoke training programme; participating in aspects of firearms training between March – June 2025
