Assistant Mechanical Engineer
Location: Wandsworth, London
Reports to: Senior Engineer & Lead Engineer
Role Overview
The company is industry leader in a specialist field with extensive experience and a well established reputation, producing a range of bespoke and standard RF antenna products ranging from large volume products for global companies to small volume custom work for highly specific applications. The company manufactures products for a diverse range of industries and market sectors including public safety, defence, transportation, utilities, manufacturing, construction and consumer goods.
The Assistant Mechanical Engineer will report to the Senior Engineer and will be part of a small team involved with the end-to-end design of new products and support equipment using CAD, redesign and improvement of existing products, updating existing drawings, management of engineering drawings and creating sample inspection reports for product verification.
Key Functional... Relationships:
The candidate will be based in the company’s head office facility in the drawing office team and will work closely with the electrical engineering team, quality team, production team, and suppliers.
Principal Responsibilities:
• Update specifications and design data for existing product ranges and product variants with the support of other technical departments.
• Manage assigned tasks and projects using engineering principles and techniques.
• Independently plan workload to meet departmental targets.
• Communicate effectively with other departments.
• Generate First Article Inspection (FAI) and Sample Inspection Reports for parts, end products, and packing materials.
• Assist technical department with engineering tasks including, technical drawings, part setup and bill of materials management.
• Checking engineering models and drawings, feedback any issues/findings back to the originator
• Validating data across different databases.
• Communicate effectively with other departments.
• General housekeeping
Key performance dimensions
• Delivery of design office tasks to a high standard and within required timeframes.
• Contribute to a reduction in the number of open design office and inspection tasks.
• Contribute to reducing cycle times for tasks based on priority.
Qualifications and Experience:
• Qualified to degree or degree equivalent level (BEng, BSc, MSc etc.) in a relevant field (mechanical engineering or design engineering).
• Experience in a similar role is desirable but not essential, and will be considered if the above qualifications are not met.
Specific Knowledge and Skills:
• Computer literate (MS Office).
• Good CAD Skills (SolidWorks preferred).
• Good knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals.
• Some experience of generating engineering reports would be an advantage.
Personal Attributes:
• Able to manage and progress a variety of engineering tasks independently or within a team environment.
• Good time management, communication and team working skills.
• Good report writing skills with excellent written English. Experience and ability to deliver concise presentations on projects and research to peers.
• A flexible, “hands-on,” proactive approach.
• An eagerness to develop additional engineering skills.
Working Hours
Full time, 42.5 hours per week (30 minutes unpaid lunch break and 2 tea breaks paid of 15 minutes each)
Monday to Friday 8am-5pm
