Kitchen Carpenter Duties:
Job Description:
Carpenters and joiners construct, erect, install, and repair wooden structures and fittings used in internal and external frameworks. The Employee will cut, shape, fit, and assemble wood to create templates, jigs, scale models, and scenic equipment for various projects, including theatres.
Key Responsibilities:
• Examine drawings and specifications to determine job requirements.
• Select and measure appropriate wood, cutting, shaping, and drilling to specifications using saws, planes, chisels, and other power or hand tools.
• Align and fix prepared wood pieces by screwing, nailing, gluing, and dowelling to form frames, shop fronts, counter units, decking, theatrical sets, furniture, small wooden craft, scale models, and wooden templates.
• Check the accuracy of work with square, rule, and spirit level.
• Maintain and repair woodwork and fittings as required.
Measuring and Planning:
Measure the kitchen space accurately to determine the... layout of cabinets, countertops, and appliances.
Plan and design custom kitchen units to meet client specifications, taking into consideration storage needs and space optimization.
Cabinet Installation:
Build and install custom kitchen cabinets, drawers, and shelving systems.
Assemble pre-manufactured kitchen cabinets or fabricate them from scratch using woodworking machinery and hand tools.
Install doors, handles, knobs, and hinges on cabinets and ensure they are level and functional.
Countertop Installation:
Measure, cut, and install countertops made of wood, laminate, or other materials.
Ensure proper fitting of the countertop around appliances, sinks, and other fixtures.
Kitchen Fixtures and Hardware:
Install kitchen accessories such as shelves, racks, and built-in appliances.
Fit decorative trims, moldings, and edge banding for a finished look.
Working with Various Materials:
Work with different materials like solid wood, MDF, plywood, and engineered wood to create durable and aesthetically pleasing kitchen furniture.
Finishing Work:
Sand, stain, or paint cabinets and wooden surfaces to ensure a smooth and polished finish.
Apply varnish, laminates, or coatings to protect the kitchen units and surfaces from wear and tear.
Modifications and Adjustments:
Make on-site adjustments to cabinets, drawers, and other fixtures to ensure a perfect fit within the kitchen space.
Modify or repair existing kitchen units as part of renovation or remodeling projects.
Wardrobe Carpenter Duties:
Custom Design and Planning:
Design and plan wardrobes according to customer preferences, maximizing space for clothes, shoes, and accessories.
Measure the room or area to ensure the wardrobe fits perfectly within the allocated space.
Wardrobe Installation:
Assemble and install built-in or freestanding wardrobes with precision.
Fit wardrobe components like shelves, drawers, rails, sliding doors, or hinged doors to meet functional needs.
Shelving and Compartment Creation:
Construct and install shelves, shoe racks, drawers, and compartments within the wardrobe for optimal organization.
Ensure the proper placement of hanging rails and drawers for ease of access and use.
Sliding Door Systems:
Install sliding or bi-fold doors with smooth functionality, ensuring they glide properly without jamming.
Fit tracks and handles to complete the door system, ensuring it aligns correctly.
Space Optimization:
Utilize the available space efficiently to provide maximum storage, including incorporating hidden compartments or corner storage systems.
Wardrobe Hardware Installation:
Install wardrobe hardware such as handles, hinges, locks, and drawer slides.
Fit accessories like mirrors, lighting, or custom organizers into the wardrobe as per client requirements.
Finishing and Detailing:
Apply appropriate finishes (staining, varnishing, painting) to the wardrobe’s exterior and interior.
Ensure that all surfaces are sanded, smooth, and protected from potential damage.
Repair and Renovation:
Carry out repairs or modifications to existing wardrobes, fixing broken doors, hinges, or drawers.
Refurbish old wardrobes with new finishes, hardware, or components as part of a renovation project.
General Skills and Responsibilities:
Attention to Detail: Ensure precise measurements and fitting to avoid gaps, uneven surfaces, or misaligned parts.
Problem Solving: Make on-site adjustments and resolve issues related to space constraints, faulty hardware, or unforeseen complications.
Customer Interaction: Discuss design options, material choices, and progress with clients, ensuring their satisfaction with the final product.
Safety and Tool Maintenance: Follow safety procedures when working with tools and machinery, and maintain tools in good working condition.
These duties ensure that kitchen and wardrobe carpenters can create functional and aesthetically pleasing storage solutions while maximizing space and meeting client specifications.
