About The Job

The Director of Accounting & Finance will oversee all aspects of month-end close, as well as the FP&A function and tax accounting.  This role will work closely with the Director of Financial Reporting to jointly produce monthly financial statements, board materials, banking compliance and overall investor deliverables.  The right person for this role will be passionate about delivering data in a timely, accurate, and relatable fashion to key business partners.   

You are a key leader on the Finance and Accounting team, reporting into the VP, Corporate Controller and overseeing a team of approximately 6 people with 2 direct reports, with potential to add headcount where necessary.  This is a role where you will wear many hats and have the opportunity to grow as the business expands.

Responsibilities

  • Review monthly budget-to-actual department results on a monthly basis with all budget owners.  Ensure all department heads are invested in the budget and forecasting processes.
  • Oversee monthly financial statement close process, maintaining a consistent 5 day close.  
  • Hire and on-board a tax accountant to begin build-out of tax compliance and reporting function.  Own all tax filings including business, sales and income taxes.
  • Drive value in other key business enhancements such as procurement software, payables controls, and business application connections to NetSuite.
  • Oversee treasury function and cash management surrounding daily banking needs.  This will include, but not be limited to, management of debt facilities and covenant compliance.  
  • Partner with management, business, technology and product management to anticipate future business changes and challenges and proactively evaluate alternative courses of action and select optimal solutions.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field or equivalent practical experience.
  • 15 years of relevant work experience, including both public accounting and experience in financial accounting
  • Public Company experience preferred.
  • 5 years of experience managing and leading a team.
  • Understanding of financial accounting systems and budgeting tools and the integrations between those systems, resulting in overall increased user adoption.  Systems include, but not restricted to NetSuite and Anaplan.

Preferred qualifications:

  • CPA and/or experience with US GAAP
  • Excellent analytical skills, combined with impeccable business judgment and ability to communicate effectively with and influence senior management.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor and lead a growing team in a fast-paced environment, specifically expanding areas of expertise and overall role responsibilities.
  • Strong knowledge of US GAAP, risk and controls standards, and business process and system best practices.

 

The expected on-target earnings range for this position is $200,000 to $225,000 per year. This range reflects typical earning potential in this role. When determining an offer, we take into account a variety of factors that are important in making compensation decisions including, but not limited, to: skill sets; experience and tenure; education and certifications; and other business and organizational needs. The disclosed range estimate is based on market data for the greater San Diego area. Salary bands may, in some circumstances, be adjusted to a different geographic area depending on the candidate's position and location. In general, Flock Freight targets the mid-point of this salary range.

In addition to salary, full-time employees are also eligible for an equity package and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Flock Freight. Our policy is that we target candidates local to one of Flock Freight’s headquarters locations (San Diego and Chicago) and ask that employees work in-office.
