Job Descrption
A Vacancy at St George's University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The South West London Bowel Screening Centre is based at St Georges Healthcare Trust and provides the National Bowel Screening Programme to residents of Wandsworth, Sutton, Merton, Croydon, Kingston and Richmond. The post holder will be responsible for providing support to the Health Improvement Specialist around general health improvement and general management to deliver improvements in health outcomes and reductions in health inequalities in the population area. The post holder will also assist with developing a co-ordinated programme of work to ensure an effective uptake of the screening programme and raise awareness of bowel cancer and the screening programme, across South West London.

St George’s, Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals and Health Group cares for a... population of four million people in South West London and North East Surrey. Our sites include St George’s Hospital, one of 11 major trauma centres in the UK and the largest healthcare provider and major teaching hospital in the area; St Helier Hospital, home to the South West Thames Renal and Transplantation Unit and Queen Mary's Hospital for Children; and Epsom Hospital, home to the South West London Elective Orthopaedic Centre (SWLEOC).
After years of collaboration, our two Trusts became a hospitals group in 2021. While remaining as two separate Trusts, being a hospitals group will help us to collaborate more closely on research, and the development, education, and training of our 17,000-strong workforce.
Professional/Clinical
- Provide practices and PCN’s with their regular uptake data
- Mapping out of key communities to work with in particular boroughs
- Prepare and deliver a range of reports regarding health promotion activity; as required.
- Responsible for ordering resources to practices
- To support the HIS in assessing the needs of the population to create and provide appropriate health information considering language and literacy and ensure availability when required
- Assist with facilitating training sessions and events
Strategic/Partnership Work
- Support the HIS develop and maintain a range of expert networks
- Assisting the Health Improvement Specialist (HIS) to arrange training sessions and clinical meetings with practices and PCN’s
- Work with the Specialist Screening Practitioners and provide support where appropriate on prevention and health improvement to individuals in the post- screening and post colonoscopy phase
- To liaise with the BCSP Hub to support the HIS in their work
- Assist with the development of communication tools such as e-briefs, newsletters and online resources to share and communicate with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- To undertake any training necessary on issues around bowel cancer and colorectal screening
- Assist the HIS in devising strategies to deliver new initiatives and changes to the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme
Data Analysis
- Monitor outcomes of data and act on any emerging trends.
