Job Descrption

Company Description

Square builds common business tools in unconventional ways so more people can start, run, and grow their businesses. When Square started, it was difficult and expensive (or just plain impossible) for some businesses to take credit cards. Square made credit card payments possible for all by turning a smartphone into a credit card reader. Since then Square has been building an entire business toolkit of both hardware and software products including Square Terminal, Square Appointments, Square Online Store, and more. We’re working to find new and better ways to help businesses succeed on their own terms—and we’re looking for people like you to help shape tomorrow at Square.

Job Description

We are looking for a highly motivated finance professional to join Square’s world-class Risk organization to help understand and manage credit risk for sellers processing on Square. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of credit and financial analysis, and a desire to apply those skills in new and innovative ways to help Square grow our annual processing volume while controlling loss related to chargebacks.

In this role, you will be responsible for conducting reviews of new and existing sellers, assessing credit risk associated with processing activity, and taking appropriate action in line with our risk policies. You will be comfortable in an operations environment, maintaining high quality standards while ensuring that we adhere to internal and seller-facing service-level agreements. You will have a thirst for knowledge—gathering insights, identifying areas for improvement, and contributing to key initiatives to push our team forward. Lastly, we expect you to be dynamic and adaptable, have a positive attitude, and be passionate for Square’s mission of Economic Empowerment. If all of this sounds exciting, you may be a good fit and we look forward to hearing from you!

You will:

  • Perform reviews of high-risk seller accounts and take action in line with Square’s risk policies
  • Analyze risks associated with different seller business models and card processing patterns
  • Collect and review appropriate documentation necessary to assess and mitigate risk
  • Document decisions and rationale in accordance with our underwriting guidelines
  • Communicate with sellers via phone and email, including investigative-level conversations
  • Work effectively with internal partners including Fraud and Compliance, as well as multiple levels of management
  • Help identify process improvements and contribute to key Credit Risk projects and initiatives

Qualifications

You have:

  • 1-2 years experience in credit, underwriting, finance, or related
  • Previous experience in fin tech, commercial banking or card processing a plus
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Self-starter; comfort dealing with ambiguity
  • Strong sense of accountability for helping our team achieve its collective goals and best-serve our customers
  • Must be a team-oriented individual with a willingness to contribute new ideas, collaborate, and learn from and mentor others
  • Efficient and strong time management skills
  • [Bonus] Associate or Undergraduate degree in Finance, Economics, or Accounting desired
  • [Bonus] Experience or demonstrated understanding in financial statement analysis
