Salary:             Competitive

Location:         Feltham, UK (close to Heathrow Airport)

Contract:         Permanent

Hours:              37.5 hours per week, full-time

Closing Date:  16th February 2024

Job Purpose:

This role is an opportunity to join the Toxicology Research and Development Team, which spans across the Forensic Toxicology and Workplace Drugs Testing Teams. You will be involved in the development of new methods and method validation studies. You will be required to undertake extractions of biological matrices and process the analytical data from these experiments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparation of samples using a variety of techniques including, protein precipitation, L/L and SPE
  • Analysis of samples using one or more of the following instrumentation techniques HSGC-FID, GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS and High Resolution Accurate Mass (HRAM)
  • Prepare QC material for method development and validation experiments
  • Maintain excellent records of experimental work performed
  • Ensuring analytical data conforms to quality standards
  • Ensuring laboratory records are maintained
  • Maintain the consumable stock and promptly order any replacements
  • Maintain a clean and tidy working environment within the laboratory and follow stringent anti contamination procedures
  • Work according to Health and Safety requirements
  • Take an active role in continuous improvement within the team. 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience and Technical Skills

For this role you must have a chemistry degree or equivalent, have strong verbal and written communication skills, and have good planning and organisational skills. You must also have a strong sense of accountability and initiative. Previous experience in Forensic Toxicology or Workplace Drugs Testing, sample preparation techniques, instrumentation and related software, and Microsoft Office would be a benefit to the role.  

  • Chemistry Degree or equivalent 
  • Demonstrable experience extracting biological samples (using L/L or SPE or similar) and in the delivery of analytical results for the Forensic Toxicology Team or Workplace Drug Testing Team
  • Ability to set up sequences and run samples on at least one of the following analytical instrumentations: GC-MS, LC-MS/MS, GC-MS/MS or HRAM.
