What’s it all about?

Europe Ecosystem Risk is a department within the Risk function that is tasked with the role of upholding the security, integrity and resilience of the payment ecosystem.  In relation to integrity risk this is achieved through the deployment of risk quality control and/or compliance programs.  The programs are deployed through Visa Rules and additional client guidelines and Visa performs quality control leveraging proprietary tools, specialized third party vendors, in market risk teams, and other stakeholders.   Ecosystem Risk also works with internal and external stakeholders to further its charter and initiatives.

The person in this role is required to ensure that Acquirer risk management processes in Europe meet the controls as detailed in the Visa Integrity Risk Program, Fraud and Dispute Programs and industry best practice and that remediation activity is in place to mitigate risk compliance issues, other excessive risk or fraud.

This person will manage the “ongoing monitoring” approach for existing Visa Acquirers, ensuring minimum standards and acceptance criteria are in place to achieve a satisfactory level of risk performance and compliance. This work is in conjunction with the wider Europe Ecosystem Risk team, Risk Advisors and other stakeholders.

What we expect of you, day to day:

  • Assist in the operation of a lifecycle program that assesses the effectiveness of controls Acquirers have in place to onboard and manage merchants covered under Visa’s Integrity Risk Program
  • Conduct on-site Acquirer reviews, or coordinate reviews through 3rd parties including managing acquirer remediation plans
  • Perform the periodic assessment of Acquirer controls at existing Visa Integrity Risk Acquirers.  Such underwriting may include any of the following: review of Self-Assessment Questionnaires, of Acquirer Policies, Procedures and sample Merchant Files, various external diligence information, payment fraud performance, etc.
  • Manage the implementation of the revised Global Acquirer Risk Standards in Europe, leading regional communication, outreach and awareness of the updated standards
  • Provide input into the Europe Close Monitoring process, coordinating risk and threat management actions including recommending Risk Conditions or client suspension / termination when appropriate
  • Oversee outreach to Europe Risk Watchlist and Close Monitoring clients, focusing on practical risk and fraud remediation measures to address excessive fraud, disputes, scam and other other brand damaging activity
  • Engage with Merchant Sales and Acceptance (MSA) and Account Executives to share intelligence, assess mitigating actions, and ensure clear accountability across functions and/or individuals to drive a consistent and timely remediation approach
  • Work closely with the Visa Integrity Risk Program global and regional teams to ensure Europe risk mitigation requirements form an integral part of the global program
  • Provide merchant underwriting and monitoring training and education both to acquirers and to Risk Advisors
  • Maintain awareness of payment industry developments, including developing products, payment methods and systems
  • Line management responsibilities as required

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

  • Strong Visa or Payments Industry experience, with focus on Acquirer risk management (including merchant underwriting) and/or financial industry experience with focus on client underwriting
  • Self-starter who can communicate with a deep understanding of the company needs and enable people to move forward through complexity
  • Relationship/Client management experience
  • Knowledge or experience in audit, risk or compliance, within a merchant acquiring environment
  • Strong awareness and exposure to merchant processing, transaction monitoring and compliance systems
  • Awareness of European regulations relating to payments, gambling, cryptocurrency, financial trading and other high-risk business models
  • Stakeholder management (internal and external)
  • Proven ability to identify process weaknesses and identify positive opportunities for change
  • Self-driven with strong organisational skills, with demonstrated excellence in managing operation programs
  • Flexible and creative thinker with strong execution skills, generate out-of-the-box solutions, manage ambiguity, anticipate the impact of decisions/initiatives and able to move seamlessly from high level concepts to details.
  • Willingness to travel in order to perform on-site reviews and client engagement across the Europe region
