What’s it all about?

Visa identifies and measures risk and develops strategies to manage and monitor the risk and aid achievement of business objectives. The Regulatory Risk team protects Visa by effectively managing supervisory relationships to, deliver Supervisory Priorities, ensure appropriate risk governance oversight, and identify changes in regulatory environment to address as appropriate. The Regulatory Risk team supports Visa’s growth by ensuring strategic initiatives consider regulatory requirements.

As the Senior Manager, Regulatory Risk you will be responsible for maintaining the relationship with our Supervisors at the Bank of England while also supporting the Government Engagement and Regulatory Legal and Compliance teams in their interactions with the Bank of England.

This role will also engage with senior stakeholders internally to coordinate responses to regulatory requests and supervisory priorities and support documentation and review of materials going to key governance committees including the European Risk Committee and the Board Risk Committee.

What we expect of you, day to day:

  • Design and develop a strategy to manage the relationship with the BoE to ensure that we respond to and proactively manage the requests from the Bank and that we build a strong working relationship with them.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders to assist in providing pertinent information to the BoE to pre-empt their questions and to ensure they receive responses to information requests that fully answer their questions and that prevent, where possible, follow up questions.
  • Ensure that we have a clear process to follow for non-object cases and that this is fully agreed with the BoE and internal stakeholders.
  • Develop briefing packs for C-suite executives and Visa Board members to support their regular interactions with the BoE and are presented in a way that meets their expectations and provides them with the information they need ahead of the meeting.
  • Agree agendas and lead agenda items during the monthly supervisory meetings held with the BoE in order to continue to build the relationship with the BoE.
  • Proactively  identify areas of interest to the Bank and partner with them to address these areas to prevent issues escalating and to assist in the Bank’s understanding of our business.
  • Leading the work from a regulatory risk perspective in relation to any thematic or priority work carried out for the BoE. This involves ensuring key stakeholders are aware of key requirements and  timelines and ensuring  timely completion to deadlines.
  • Reviewing any papers for submission to the Bank to ensure that they meet the needs of the Bank and that all questions or points have been addressed. Providing challenge where needed or feedback to ensure all deadlines are met.
  • Addressing all queries from the Bank in a timely manner bringing in subject matter experts where needed and ensuring all submissions are of a high quality and address the questions asked.
  • Supporting the work with other regulators to ensure that there is alignment between them to include:
    • Updating the team on issues as they arise or queries from the BoE to ensure everyone has sight of these and can input on solutions.
    • Support the team in cross regulatory training sessions that may be of benefit to other regulators and not just the BoE.
    • Joining meetings other regulators to share insights gained from work for the BoE and to ensure knowledge of their areas of focus.
  • Manage an analyst to support supervisory work by managing meeting requests and general admin tasks across all supervisory relationships.

    This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

    Qualifications

    What we’re after; Knowledge & Experience

    • Excellent understanding of Regulatory environment and expectations.
    • Ability to anticipate regulatory requirements and develop processes and procedures to ensure Visa is continually prepared for and can meet Visa Europe’s regulatory requirements.
    • Experienced in dealing with regulators and good understanding of governance processes.
    • • Proven ability to build credible-long term effective working relationships, both internally and externally.
    • Experienced at leading and influencing decisions and actions of others, including regulators, internal stakeholders, and senior management.
    • Excel in preparing/reviewing/delivering regulatory and executive communications, both written and oral.
    • Ability to look at the broad spectrum of reporting collected to support regulatory asks and assess risks that we may be highlighting without effective mitigates. Also, analyse regulatory requests to assess potential points of feedback or issues that are likely to emerge from the interaction.
    • Ability to prioritise and manage tight turnaround times for Regulatory deliverables while finding pragmatic solutions to regulatory asks.
    • Demonstrate leadership by managing team workload and delegating effectively.
    • Performs well under pressure and in conditions of uncertainty.
    • Knowledge, understanding and experience of risk management practices in financial services.
    • Deep understanding of the UK and wider European payments and / or financial services industry and the major trends affecting key stakeholders, including the regulatory, political and market environment, payment products and services, economic and competitive landscape, technology and the rising threat of data breaches.
    • Control / corporate functional experience (Finance, Risk & Regulatory, Legal, Compliance)
    • Fluent in English (verbal and written)
    • Proficient with Microsoft Power Point, Excel, Word and Outlook
