Platforms & Software (P&S)

The Platforms and Software (P&S) division maintains a centre of excellence for technology and broader infrastructure-related innovation, translating market needs into core expansion programmes to enable market development. We ensure that products and services are constantly pushing the boundaries of satellite communications.  The P&S team is responsible for delivering development programmes, including satellites and launchers, ground infrastructure (ground stations, networks, user terminals and access technology), regulatory, market access and product and service development. 

Job Description

Primary role purpose:

We are currently seeking a skilled and experienced Linux Systems Administrator to join our team in the Airlines/Aviation industry. As a Linux Systems Administrator, you will play a crucial role in managing and maintaining our Linux-based systems and servers to ensure optimal performance and reliability. This is a great opportunity for a talented individual looking to make a significant impact within a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, configure, and maintain Linux servers and virtualization technologies
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement necessary fixes
  • Collaborate with software developers and IT teams to ensure seamless integration of systems
  • Maintain system security and perform regular backups
  • Manage and maintain systems infrastructure
  • Provide technical support and basic level training to end-users
  • Document system configurations and procedures for reference

Qualifications

Essential Knowledge and Skills:

  • You must be eligible to work in this location advertised
  • Proven experience as Systems Administrator of Linux operating systems (e.g., Red Hat, CentOS, Alma, ubuntu)
  • Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g. KVM)
  • Experience with automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Terraform, Chef)
  • Familiarity with network protocols and security principles
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently and in a team and be able to prioritise own schedule
  • Ability to work under pressure and show flexibility when required
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills and be self-motivate

Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of ancillary network tools monitoring / troubleshooting tools like Wireshark would be advantageous
  • Proficient in scripting languages (e.g. Bash, Perl, Python )
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field
  • Knowledge of Operating System hardening (e.g. to CIS benchmark)
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g Jenkins, CircleCI)
  • Skills with Linux Tooling (e.g.  Foreman, Katello)
  • Postgres SQL
