Canam is seeking a Project Accountant to join its Finance Team in Frederick, MD. The person will be responsible for the project accounting module, revenue recognition transactions, the GL impacts of project transactions, and the maintenance of project master files. The role includes project forecasting, billing validation, managing project closures, supporting the audit process, and ensuring compliance and accuracy in project accounting transactions.
Essential Functions
Handle forecasting for projects to establish the base for revenue recognition.
Review revenue recognition transactions in accordance with project forecasts and post monthly revenue amounts.
Maintain the project accounting master files to ensure accurate and up-to-date information.
Coordinate with the invoicing team to validate the accuracy of project billing.
Manage coding for project purchase orders and accounts payable, ensuring accurate cost tracking.
Manage the closing of projects, to ensure all financial and contractual obligations are fulfilled.
Handle project retention and manage deposits on contracts.
Prepare detailed financial reports for stakeholders to support decision-making.
Support the audit process for project accounting.
Engage in process improvement initiatives and actively contribute to the enhancement of project accounting practices.
Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) in Business or Accounting or comparable experience
Minimum 2 years prior experience
Proficiency in MS Excel, Pivot Tables, VLOOKUPs, and complex formulas
Experience in construction industry preferred
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
Team spirit and excellent communication skills
Ability to analyze a variety of problems resulting from the diverse nature of projects handled
Bilingual English/French a plus
