You’ll start with a thorough induction, which involves a week or two of classroom learning, followed by time with a Training Support Driver to gain experience of driving your route before you go it alone. As the name suggest, this isn’t an A to B long-distance driving role. It’s multi-drop. You’ll drive an 18 or 26 tonne vehicle, on a consistent route and deliver food to restaurants, pubs, care homes, schools and hospitals.. At each drop, you’ll pick the food from the back of your lorry yourself, which can be physically challenging. But at each of these stops you’ll also have the chance to build a good rapport with your customers, which is really satisfying.
With 50% driving and 50% picking, the role is physical, varied and interesting. If you’re a newly qualified Class2 driver it’s a perfect way to gain valuable experience in a driving role and if you’re a van driver looking to move into HGV driving, our ‘Changing Gears’ training programme will support you to achieve your Class2 qualification. You’ll enjoy some pretty impressive benefits too:
People will always need to eat. So, we’ll always need to deliver food.
