Senior Embedded Software Engineer — Southampton — £55,000
I’m recruiting on behalf of my client in Southampton for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join their embedded software team. This role combines hands-on development with coordination of engineering activity, making it ideal for someone who enjoys both coding and guiding others.
The Role
• Develop embedded software across microcontroller, DSP and embedded Linux platforms
• Break down requirements into development tasks
• Support project planning and provide workload estimates
• Lead daily stand-ups and assist team members with debugging and problem-solving
• Oversee system integration, prototype validation and demos
• Liaise with cross-functional teams and external suppliers
• Contribute code in your specialist area and take part in peer reviews
• Support process improvements (CI, automated testing, documentation)
What You’ll Need
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or similar
• 5+ years embedded software development experience
• Strong C skills on embedded platforms
• Expertise in at least one: embedded Linux, ARM microcontrollers or DSP
• Experience with unit testing, automated testing or TDD
• Clear communication and strong organisational skills
