Senior Manager – Global Accounting Policy

About the role:
We are seeking a technically strong and detail-oriented accounting professional to join our Global Accounting Policy team in the UK on a 6-month contract. The role will focus on providing IFRS-based technical accounting support on various transactions, particularly in relation to treasury and capital markets activities, including hedge accounting under IAS 39 and IFRS 9. The successful candidate will play a key role in advising on complex transactions, interpretation of IFRS standards, maintaining accounting policies, and supporting implementation efforts across global finance teams.
Experience / Skill set:
• Provide expert technical accounting advice on complex and judgmental areas, with a focus on treasury products, including debt issuances, structured notes, derivatives, and hedging strategies.
• Lead or support technical reviews and documentation related to hedge accounting under IAS 39 and the transition to IFRS 9 hedge accounting, including designations, effectiveness testing, and discontinuation.
• Interpret and draft accounting policies under IFRS, ensuring consistent application across global entities, particularly in treasury and capital markets areas.
• Evaluate the impact of new and evolving IFRS standards; provide recommendations and support implementation where applicable.
• Prepare clear and concise technical accounting papers for internal governance forums and external auditors.
• Support responses to auditor and regulator queries on technical accounting matters.
• Provide training and technical updates to finance, risk, and business teams.
• Monitor developments from standard setters (IASB, EFRAG, etc.) and assess their implications for the banking business model.
• Collaborate with accounting policy, finance, product control, and risk teams across jurisdictions.
Qualifications & Experience:
• Qualified accountant (e.g., ACA, CA, CPA or equivalent)
• Relevant experience, working as part of:
• Big 4 accounting firm’s technical advisory (Financial Services or Banking) team, or
• Accounting policy function within a bank.
• Strong and practical working knowledge of IFRS, in particular:
• IAS 32 and IFRS 9 with a focus on capital issuances, including debt/equity classification and separation of embedded derivatives, dealing with intra-group funding structures with consideration on capital requirements and distributable reserves.
• Hedge accounting frameworks both under IAS 39 and IFRS 9
• Accounting for intangibles (with focus on internally generated software) and impairment thereof.
• Experience of dealing with practical considerations of IFRS 10 (Consolidation), IFRS 3 (Business Combinations), and IFRS 15 (Revenue Recognition) is desirable but not essential.
Skills & Attributes:
• Strong technical research and documentation skills with an ability to present complex concepts clearly and concisely.
• Proven ability to interpret and apply IFRS standards to real-world banking transactions.
• Comfortable working with cross-functional teams and engaging with senior stakeholders across geographies.
• Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver under pressure.
• Proactive, self-motivated, and a collaborative team player.
