Description

Trinity School is a well-established secondary school located in the United Kingdom, committed to providing high-quality education and fostering a supportive learning environment. We are currently seeking a passionate and dedicated Teacher of English to join our English department.

We wish to appoint a highly motivated and committed English teacher to teach at all key stages. We are hopeful that the candidate will share our passion for improvement. Applications are welcome from newly qualified and more experienced teachers.

The English Department

The English Department at Trinity School is friendly, supportive and, crucially, always strives to be the best that it can be. We believe that a curriculum is always a work in progress and made some innovative changes to KS3 this year. This is an exciting time to join our team. The next academic year will see us modify and improve on this year’s hard work and your voice and ideas will be a very welcome addition when making these decisions. Currently, we have a reading group and are considering new texts to invigorate some aspects of our curriculum: we are always looking for creative approaches to inspire our students. Regardless of where you are in your career, we welcome your application. With a department of fifteen teachers, we have a breadth of experience, from ECT to more experienced staff who have been teaching for decades. A fresh perspective is always welcomed and valued.

Key Stage 3 – Last year has seen a shift from a KS3 Curriculum that explicitly teaches GCSE to a knowledge rich curriculum that prioritises conceptual understanding that can be applied in any context. In short, we are invested in making our students literate: both in the literal sense and culturally. Our KS3 team has undertaken vast research to ensure the right diet of complex and challenging texts are provided for our students. The curriculum is, rightly so, a journey through time to ensure our students can contextualise any text they encounter. Year 7 cover topics such as: Early Story Writing, An Introduction to Poetry and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Year 8 are taught A Christmas Carol and various Crime and Mystery short stories. We are in the process of changing the Year 8 play. Finally, Year 9 learn from various Science Fiction stories, Stories from other cultures and Romeo and Juliet. Integrated into these topics are ample opportunities for explicit teaching of grammar, context, metaphor and story structures.

Key Stage 4 - Year 10 and Year 11 are taught in sets according to ability. Students are prepared for both English Language and English Literature GCSE of the AQA specification. Our staff are given opportunities to work with a range of sets to ensure their own CPD is developed. For example, a teacher may have a lower set in Year 11, alongside a top set in Year 10. We are currently considering various new methods to invigorate our essay structures in the hope of providing our students with the best opportunities in the exam. Over the next few years, we hope to integrate some of the foundational skills taught in our new KS3 programme to our KS4 curriculum.

Key Stage 5 - At Trinity, we currently have around 80 students studying English courses in the Sixth Form. We offer AQA English Language, AQA English Literature (‘A’ syllabus) and Media Studies at A level, having recently moved to EDUQAS for the latter.

The post is part time (0.2fte) and permanent.
